I looked through all of the Cold Steel Archives Catalogs and could not find a VG-1 Blade blackened, but I did find the identical knife in the 2005 Catalog and it says Carbon V. What makes you think it is a VG-1 Steel? Just trying to figure it out, no diss intended.

None taken. I no longer have any info on it, bought it new but got rid of the box sometime I believe in 2010. I did find this:

With a coated VG-1 blade. You could be correct, I'm not sure how to tell. I'm not much versed in cold steels

Just trying to help. Carbon V SRKs were made in USA and have "Made in USA" and "Carbon V" stamped on the ricasso. This is stamped with "JAPAN" so it is either AUS8A or VG-1. If you bought it in or before 2010 it is definitely AUS8A because the SRK with Coated VG-1, SKU# 38CKJ1 was newly released in 2015. Being a discontinued model in this condition, I believe it is very appropriately priced.

Thanks! I knew someone would come through with more cold steel info on BF. Post adjusted

Another way to have determined was the blade grind, both the US made Carbon V and the blackened AUS8 model came in a saber grind, the VG model had a hollow grind but I believe it was only in a satin version.
