Cold Steel SRK

After reading through this, I dont remember if this is a ESEE thread or a , What was the other one, Oh yeah the SRK. I have had mine for longer than I can recall, Love the darn thing.

I think it's a semi-fair comparison, the RC-6 is double the price.

The SRK was developed as a special purpose knife and while it has changed a little, lets see where some of the others are in 30 years.:)

Well, add me to the list. Been an SRK owner for...I dunno, maybe 15 years? Great knife. Held up 100%. Fits in the hand perfectly, and does the job.

i almost got an SRK... but i could not get it at a local store so kept on checking on the internet and hit this forum... and guess what? I got the RC6 :D

i have one in Carbon V. only bought it after i found a Blade Tech kydex sheath for it when i was buying some other gear from them at a show, because the factory nylon sheath is crap IMHO. bought the sheath, went over to the Cold Steel table and bought a SRK 2nd and i think i threw the factory sheath in the nearest trash can.

anyway, i got it to use as a belt knife at the shooting range. unfortunately it failed my first test and it's been stuck in the range bag since then. the tip is too thick for it to cut thru the sidewalls of tires (car tires, not truck tires) at the range for use as target stands, and in actual use i wasn't that impressed with the kraton grip. sorry, i don't like the knife enough to spend time reprofiling it. my Spyderco Endura and Benchmade AFCK were better blades for my needs. it got used less than a handful of times and i've had it for over ten years.

so, have one, not impressed, not on my recommended buy list and it i lost it i wouldn't buy another. not likely to lose it tho since it doesn't get used.

I got three SRK CarbonV. I'd pick the Master Hunter over the SRK but the SRK is an excellent replacement for the KaBar which is over rated and not designed as well as the SRK.

*Almost* anything is better than a Kabar, IMO. Why people drool over that knife is beyond me.

I have the CS Master Hunter, SRK, Camillus Becker Crewman, the LMF-II, Prodigy, and now a RC-4 and Scrapyard Dumpster Mutt. This pretty much matches my progression of buying and using fixed blade knives. I thought the MH was great, until I got a SRK. I thought the SRK was great, until I got the Crewman. And so forth.

I've used the RC-4 and it's now my hands down favorite. Haven't been able to use the Scrapyard since a) I haven't been out since I injured my back and b) I don't have a sheath for it (working to get it sent to Rainwalker for a desert tan kydex, maybe today...). Not sure about the Scrapyard, since the handle seems a bit small for me, but I've got big hands - the jury is still out.

Love or hate CS, you have to admit, they do make some pretty good knives for the $$$. I still mourn the loss of my Voyager tanto bladed EDC I lost (or got stole) a couple years ago. I got my son and daughter one last Xmas, they both love them.

I feel your pain of the injuy, hope you get it clearded up for this summer. A guy does not get enough summers anyway, it's a bummer to miss one from injuries.:thumbdn:

I am a Kabar fan, I counted on it to pull my fat from the fire many times inthe military. I had the Kabar and the Ontario versions of the Marine knife. Like the SRK it was designed with a job in mind and did that job well. I am used to peolple trashing CS it goes with the job on this site. The old " I had a cold steel but I traded it for a Frost".

The CV SRK's are at a premium, you could probably sell it for a profit if you wanted to get rid of it - and it's just a suggestion, I'm not trolling. I've got a couple myself. :)

I got one in 01 on base in Japan, went with me to Korea, several other field ops in Japan and California and came back home only to be traded to a member here. As far as I know it's still "rockin' and rollin' " and doing as great a job for it's new owner as it did for me. My only complaint with mine was the sheath.

I have a Carbon V one in a survival sheath systems sheath.Great knife for all around work.It can take a good beating too.

I have a Carbon V SRK and used it for years. SRKW and Busse fills the niche now but it was a pretty good blade for cash. I think I paid around $65 bucks. i keep it in my jeep as a just in case knife.

I have owned 3 Carbon V SRK's and loved 'em ,used them abused them to a degree and once I sold it or gave it to a Boy in need I miss it... Great knife IMO for some basic camping,bushcraft....Good feel to it ,good balance, razor sharp and mine had great sheaths.
I have only owned the Carbon V versions only....

I just picked up a san-mai version, a little pricier than the original. I wanted one for years in CV but then Camillus shut down and they went AUS-8 stainless, I still like the shape and saw the SM version so figured why not. Haven't given it a beating yet.
