Cold Steel - Steel Tiger Karambit

punching is way more difficult than ripping away with a karambit, Hold it upright with the blade curving down and you have just about the most instinctive and destructive close range weapon imaginable. Put it in a child's hands and the child would make hamburger out of an attacker

That is true. Wouldn't call it instinctive though. But some of what you said is part of what I posted earlier. What I am saying is, a traditional style blade is a better tool for SD than a karambit when you don't have training at all. If you have just a karambit in a confrontation, of course feel free to use it at will.

IMO, Cold Steel is the Vanilla Ice of the knife world. They lie and steal. They play pretend.

But the company that builds the knives for them (I forget who it is) makes a good product for them. I just wish the designs weren't always ugly and often stolen. If Cold Steel made a knife that didn't look like flea market mall ninja junk, owned up to their stolen ideas, and cut out the corny, arrogant advertising, I would probably be a fan of theirs as the build quality and performance isn't bad for the money.

A Vaquero Grande or Black Sable may be able to cut things, but it makes my vomit about as much as a United Cutlery Gil Hibben fantasy junker.

I hear ya there Hair. For most of their knives, there are better choices, especially regarding their tactical knives. And what is up with their $400 knives with a "borrowed" wave?! :jerkit:  I do like a few of their knives. The Ti-Lite is cool. And how can you refuse a 6 inch voyager? But that about sums up my list of knives that I like from Cold Steal (oh did I mispell that?) and I don't own either of them.

Like I said I dont know anything about the politics, I like some of coldsteels stuff very much. But thank you for the info.
I will give you a run down about the politics as unbiased as I can.
The knife world is a small one. Most of the owners of the major manufacturers know each other personally and go way back.
Lynn Thompson is the owner Cold Steel. He is known to "borrow" the ideas of others and incorporate it in his own products.
That about sums it up. I could go into detail, but that is a whole other can of worms.

I wrote Wholesale Hunter an email asking them to confirm that I would receive the AUS8A version of the Ti-Lite. (Fingers crossed.)

As far as the Steel Tiger Karambit is concerned, I very much doubt it will become part of my EDC, but time will tell.

I do understand the amount of training necessary to become proficient with a Karambit, and, should time ever allow, I might actually pursue such training.

I purchased the Steel Tiger because I do not yet own a Karambit, and for $49 I figured, why not?

Thanks all for your replies.

Update:

Wholesale Hunter responded to my email.
They said they do have the 6" Ti-Lite in AUS 8A, and that is what I will receive.

I will probably get one myself, the only thing I wonder about is how large the tang is, fairly certain there's no steel arounf the ring. Not a big deal, it's just going to be something I play with around the house. Love my balis, but don't edc them, just fun to flip. Same will be for this 'bit.

Took JFJKD a few years myself :p

The Steel Tiger is backordered with Cold Steel for a minimum of two weeks according to Wholesale Hunter.
I wonder if it is going to be a very popular knife?
