I personal find these tests a bit extreme but it definitely showcases the strength of Cold Steels Tri-ad lock.

Will it stop me from using my Sebenzas? hell no...

For your entertainment.

So they test how much weight it will hold After they best up the lock face?

For the money, I see Cold Steel as a decent beater knife, but these "tests" make me not was to give them my money...

I see no need to spine whack a folding knife, and I generally edc a fixed and folding combination so I don't have any issues with needing a harder use knife than my large 21 can deal with.

yeah they always do the "spine whack" test first, then the hang test.

I've been following their testing vids for a while and tell you what, I'm amazed by the weight some of these blades/locks can hold.

I'm not afraid to use my knives, but certainly don't use then in this fashion so I don't really take these tests seriously.

But I keep watching them out of entertainment - I could never destroy expensive knives like this so the next best thing is to watch someone else do it.

looks like you edited your initial post while I was replying...

I agree with you...

I agree with you, especially with these two points. The video is appalling, no matter what knives they're testing.

What idiot would EVER do that to their knife? That extreme treatment is silly and unrealistic, imo. I would never treat ANY knife that way. Like the quote says,"a knife is the most expensive and least effective prybar you'll ever use." A folder is not a one-piece knife. It's not a prybar. Don't expect it to be one or behave like one. And I believe ANY lock or safety can potentially fail, no matter who makes it.

Not all that big of a deal really, I remember hearing that they didn't want to test a Sebenza......

However that did change due to their customer feedback.

Personally I don't believe that they really wanted to do it and was told personally that exactly.

The testing method is solid and repeatable however and that is their standard.

I know that Lynn and Andrew both have nothing but the highest respect for Chris Reeve and his products.

Not that I'm defending this test but the second one is brand new, it didn't go through the spine whack procedure.

It may be the case that they failed because they were unused, maybe after some break-in period the lock would perform better. I don't know, just wondering...

If it were being tested again, I'd like to see how it did after letting the lock settle in more.
I always felt that liner and frame-locks were more secure after breaking in a bit.

they always get two competitor knives when they test in case one fails catastrophically before getting to the hang test (eg during the spine whack test).

It's not uncommon that they end up using the backup (new) knife during the hang test.

but yes I was surprised to see the NEW knife fail so quickly. I wish they would have shown how the failure happened. They typically show closeups but in this one, the video kind of stopped abruptly at the end.

I wouldn't have done it personally.

Never did hard use test a Sebenza like I did the Striders, didn't really see the need.

True, but it would be interesting to see if it did better when worn in.
I remember how one titanium liner lock I have that, when new, the lock-bar would slide off the tang with hand pressure (early lock-up and not much contact area.
After it wore in though, it engaged further, and had more surface area contact with the blade tang. Now, it does not slip, and is a nice, reliable lock. :)

That was interesting...

I could tell that Mr. Demo has the utmost respect for CRK and was really choosing his words :D

Cold Steel is a little bit too "in your face" for my taste but to their credit they really do walk the walk.

Interesting, but irrelevant unless you use your knives that way. I appreciate (and own) a Sebbie 21 and an American Lawman. Both are outstanding knives IMHO.

I never understand these moronic spine-whack tests, but for what it's worth, if you were striking anything that hard with your sebenza, you'd be gripping that lock so hard it would likely never move. This test does nothing to simulate the human hand

You can see it in Demko's face several times throughout the video that he wasn't enjoying himself.

Yes, but is it meaningful? And if so, to whom?

Well if they actually showed how/where it failed it might be of use to CRK. I would guess the lock cutout buckled, BUT at that low of weight I think it was just slipping off the blade tang.

Ouch. That was ugly to watch. Especially the new one out of the box. Kind of makes me want to try and test mine out. Wish I had 400$ to toss down the drain.

I think that all framelocks will succumb to the same or similar fate. But man that was quick.
