Cold Steel thumb plate loose/rattle?

Just got a brand new Rajah 3. My first Cold Steel with a thumb plate. The thumb plate has some visible/palpable play in it and rattles a bit when the knife is moved. It works for thumb opening (haven't tried wave opening yet) but it's just not entirely tight against the underlying spine. When I tried to tighten the Torx screw to eliminate that issue it seemed like it was firmly tightened already - I didn't muscle it any further so as not to strip the screw.

Is this loose/rattling thumb plate normal for those Cold Steel models that have one, or is something not quite right with mine?

Thanks for any input or opinions!

Not at all normal. None of mine have ever budged.

You might try carefully unscrewing it, cleaning out the hole, and screwing it back in. There might just be a bit of gunk in there.
Appreciate the reply, I may give that a try or do an exchange. Any other input/experience from others?

I've got a few as well and no loose thumb plates here. Maybe a little too much grinding or like mentioned maybe some gunk, or a flake of metal got into the hole and caused the problem.

if you have a soldering iron, try heating the screw up first before doing anything. You can inspect the situation without causing any damage, before sending it back.

Thanks all. I purchased direct from MidwayUSA, so it should be legit. I'm just gonna contact them and initiate an exchange, hopefully they'll cover return shipping since it's apparently defective. I don't want to monkey with it then cause a bigger issue and have that become a point of contention for a future exchange.

no its not normal. if its new id send back, to the dealer, for exchange with one not defective. instead of trying to fix it yourself. going to gsm for warranty is a huge headache, ask me how I know.
This got me curious. What was the warranty experience like? Did they try to accommodate your needs at least?

Recently received mine from midway too. Thumb plate is tight.

Midway is usually good , so immediate problem should be solved soon . :)

I've got a ton of these type wave openers and they've all been solid from the start and stayed tight even with hard use .

I have read of damage due to baton , but I don't do this .

I did a post on it, but stopped updating it. its all gone down hill from my last post. I'm on the path of letting it go right now anyways.
Unhappy news .

I always try to find a good deal , but my acceptable price goes down when I can't expect decent warranty service .

since you said you tried to tighten the screw and it didn't move, I say you have a 99% chance of fixing it easily. best case is they didn't toque the screw enough and any loctite set up with the screw loose. or you may find you'll need a washer underneath the plate. Probable worst case the screw is stripped
