Cold Steel torpedo

TOPS knives make a product that is designed to be lashed to a staff to make a spear. Its called the Hoffman Harpoon. I would rather have that on me. Take up a lot less space and weighs a lot less.

I have several both sizes. Love them, fun to throw, but too heavy to pack around. More of a fun toy. Kind of like my hurlbut.

The harpoon looks ok, but the cold steel bushman is your best bet, fill the hollow handle with a firesteel and a fishing kit, turn it into an indestructable spear, plus its a pretty good knife. Not bad for under 20 bucks.

It’s Fun and Easy to Throw (always wear eye protection)
Heavy and perfectly balanced, the Big Rock is a lot of fun for target throwing because it’s an easy throw from almost any distance. The stone surface slides effortlessly from the hand for a perfect release and offers twice the sticking potential of a conventional throwing knife. What’s more, the heavy 2 lb. weight lets you stand way back from the target (20 yards or more) and really “lob them in there” with surprising force.

Hunting and Survival
When thrown with skill, the Big Rock delivers enough raw power and lethal bludgeoning force to cleanly dispatch animals up to coyote size. Just look at all the advantages it offers for hunting and survival situations.

It's only a toy.

For survival, carry a real knife and make yourself a throwing stick.

theres always the rpg also. I don't own any of these throwers, but I do own a bushman which can make a good spear and is a very good knife for the money in my humble opinion. I have a trail hawk that can be thrown but I don't throw it I just use it as a little camp axe, it split my buck's pelvic bone this year, its a nice little hawk.

I also have the the cold steel shovel, which you might want to take a look at. Fun to throw, and goes through roots easily, and can be used as a chopper. A good tool.
rpg weighs under a pound. http://www.coldsteel.com/80st.html

I still wish they made the mini bushman.

Take care,
Scottman

I thought those were outlawed.
I remember having many close calls with those, or were those 'on purposes'?

Nothin' like barefoot Jarts to liven a childhood summer evening on the lawn up a bit Badge54!

I would imagine they have to have been outlawed ages ago. Gotta wonder how many eyes were lost playin' that game. Its a wonder any of us are alive.

We used to play chicken with those things. A time when kids were kids dumb or not.

Good work on the design of the sheath. Do you use the torpedo often?

Thanks, and, no, it is sitting in my room. I have never thrown it, but woe to any home invader, as I can only guess that it would go right through a man's chest if I hit him square. Though I originally thought that it would be good for rabbits. I would probably lose it after one or two throws. The sheath is made of a continuous piece of tube nylon with a slit in it, and the cap end goes over the tip of the Torpedo. I might reinforce this area with a patch of leather or something.

Kind of reminds me of a "tap stick". Take wood dowling, about two feet long and screw a heavy steel nut onto the end. You can wing these things at rabbits and injure/kill them. Good luck hitting the bloody things though. Theory sometimes bounces off the wall of practical reality.
