Cold steel trail hawk

I believe you are correct about the molds. It may be that they forge off the original and then machine down the head, or they modified based on the molds. I can tell you this the. Ferhman made versions were demo tools/weapons. They SUCKED at woodwork. RMJ did state that they modded the geo to make them better at wood work while maintaining the thicker edges to allow for breaching if needed. It cpuld definitely be thinner if it was just going to be a wood tool or a slasher/chopper of soft targets. I have been planning on re-hanging my wood handled Mod 1 on an 18”+ long haft. Maybe even around 22”, Just cuz I can.

I thinned and convexed my trail hawk and it cuts very well. I really like them for what they are. Ive also wanted to get a pipe hawk and dress it up too.

I just now viewed the ATC site, and the Model 1 looks very different now ...
Bit is now smooth (vs the lines running parallel to the edge, like little steps which make zero sense to me  and part of the performance issue I have with it), and the haft is also very different (octagonal shaped vs round). Also, I'd have to stroke my haft a little to get it past its actual 13-3/4", where-as the current spec lists it at 14-1/8". Additionally, looks like now comes with a pair of Low-Ride MOC straps for belt carry (which I did not receive :-(
It appears the Model 1 has gone through some revision.
