Anyone use one for an outdoors knife?

Am kinda liking it, but have only had 1 Cold Steel folder before.

I just wrote a review on that one in the review forum and it is also pictured in my forum showing the lock up and my thoughts on it if you are interested. The new ones have some changes to them for the better over the one you posted a pic of.

STR, I read your reviews, can you expand on this a little? I can get the older AUS8 one, which is a steel I actually really like, but are there changes in the newer VG-1 ones other than the steel?

Yes. Here is a quick flat bed scanner shot of my new one in VG1.

Note that not only the blade steel has been upgraded to VG1 but they have now added finger grooves at all the same points seen in the Spyderco Ocelot and some of the BladeTech models have used for years to aid for when it gets wet, bloody or both during a job.

I don't know what you have read of VG1 steel but its a step up from AUS8 in most every way from what I've gathered.

Looks like a well built knife. I also think its quite interesting. STR, you should put a link directly to your review.

Go over to my forum here in the individual knifemaker forums and I think you can see more pictures of the UH apart to show you that massive lock. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=810

Its a very well built knife guys.

In fact my top three picks for heavy duty folders if you were to ask me would be the 80MM Manix or Manix by Spyderco, this Ultimate Hunter, and the BenchMade HK 14205 not necessarily in that order either. Much as I hate to admit it this UH may be one of the best ones out there. There are so many things about it that make it a great choice other than where it comes from.

1 its easily replaced for a very small price.
2 its got a thick in the blade with a nice thin even grind for a blade this thick
3 its a hunter model with that written on the blade so its probably less likely to cause problems than a knife the same size in a tactical but just as tough or tougher and I could go on.

Thanks STR for the review of the knife and the new information of VG1. I have wondered about VG1 for awhile now but didn't have a clue until now.
