Cold Steel Urban Dart, opinions?

Sheath update:
Back in November 6th of 2006, I manage to convince CS to sell me two extra sheaths for use with my Jungle Darts.
By End of November- nothing was shipped, they lost my order etc. Blah Blah Blah
Dec 1, they claimed to have shipped the order to my OLD address but not charged my card. Dec 20th they canceled the original order and placed a new one for $11.00 per sheath and to make the mess all up to me they kindly agreed to ship the re-order for free. Here we are in January6th and the package arrives with 2 sheaths but NO BALLCHAINS to wear them! I figure, "No Ballchains? No brains!" Not only that, but no Shipping invoice! So today I got my Visa bill and the total comes to $30 not $22 as promised. Sneaky stuff they tried to pull. Cold Steel, if you're reading this- the little ploy will cost you $300 in lost business. That's the reciprocity factor I use to thank those that try to cheat me.
Looks like CS was listening to my complaint of the weak retention tension- the new sheaths are MUCH thighter on the Urban Dart than the ones that orignally shipped.
What I learned:
1) CS- reads forum posts
2) They are smart enought to repair potentially risky design mistakes
3) Rather than thank me for my warning with free shipping, they punished me by upping the cost of my extra sheaths and still charged the shipping.
4) They can't imagine how someone they don't know can punish them for trying to cheat him- but they'll soon see ;) See you at SHOT CS !

As opposed to assuming that CS is wringing their hands, twisting their handle-bar mustaches, and laughing maniacally at the evil that they perpatrated on you, is it not more likely and logical to assume that the dart sheaths you received before were merely fitted differently or defective? That does happen in mass production, you know. I mean, my urban dart sheath has always been very tight, and I got one of the first one's out the door.

As to your 4 points-
1- I do not know that CS as a company reads posts, but some of the employees do on occaision.
2- Of course they are. To not do so would cause nothig but trouble and I can tell you that safety for the customer is of primary concern. That is why I am more inclined to believe that it was simply a manufacturing issue rather than being ignorant of the need to make that sheath tight.
3-Punish you? I highly doubt that CS, or any other company for that matter, is in the habit of "punishing" a customer, no matter what that customer may or may not have done. I am sure that if the company did not want to do business with someone, they would simply stop doing business with them. That is the smart way to conduct business. But I suppose that it is more likely that the powers-that-be at CS would rather spend their time in dark, smoke filled rooms, in their secret cabal, and plotting against their customers. Yea, I bet that's it.
Oh no, a customer uncovered our secret plan to make loose Urban Dart sheaths so we could impale the toes of everyone in the world. Our plans for global domination have been thwarted. We must seek retribution against him for making us change all the sheaths so that they are safe. Damn him! Hey, why don't we jerk him around for a couple of months over a $20 transaction, then overcharge him $10, AND THEN not include the bead chains! That'll show him and will act as an example to all others not to cross Cold Steel or they won't get bead chains either!
BWAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH!

Something like that?
Or, is it just more likely that during the busiest time of their year- November through XMas, did someone in Customer Service simply drop the ball? While that is not good, it is hardly nefarious. CS wants to keep customers, not punish them.
4- Come on man, CS didn't try to "cheat" you. Someone, or a couple of someone's in the office dropped the ball. You really think that they are out to get you over 2 plastic sheaths? That is not worth losing customers over. As for the SHOT show, maybe you should go to their booth and talk to them. But, if you are out to "punish" them, or seek out some sort of revenge over 2 plastic sheaths, 2 bead chains, and $10 bucks, I do not think you will be happy with the results. They are there to conduct business. If you want to act in a businesslike fashion, I am sure that they will do everything they can to accomodate you. If you go there to act like a vindictive jerk, you will not get the desired results.

Good luck.

Yay! dngruss1 is back!

we're still waiting for our metaphorical ass kicking you promised about the superiority of CS products!

Never left-

Already did that- though my points weren't about the "superiority" of CS, but rather the holes in the arguments and venom of the haters.

Check the chronology- after making that statement about "more to come" (a favorite line for you haters to pick on- though I don't know why) I started a whole new thread and made many posts on lots of CS related topics. basically, learn to tell time.

I am not going into that dead-end debate again.

Update. CS double charged me for those two extra sheaths. I'll spare everyone the e-mail I just sent to CS customer service. No accident, just stupidity in general. No venom here, just justice- MY brand of justice ;)
I'll see them at SHOT in a few days anyway.
Thanks for the enlightment regarding "ball dropping" during the December holidays. I only expect the ball to drop at Midnight on December 31st LOL !
$10 or $10,000... I always get my just desserts and man have they been pilling up lately- Just nailed BOA for $23,000 on a very stupid mistake their people made recently.

Just desserts from whom? BOA or Cold Steel?
BOA will pay I hear, in 3 installments.Besides, I heard that a rumor about 5 of thier ATM's being demolished kinda got things into fast forward with them. Cold steel is stalling for a little bit longer :grumpy: . Wait till I post a re-enactment of the Urban Dart near miss incident on U-Tube . Then we'll see who's laughing :D
So who on Bladeforums is actually the Cold Steel surrogate ?

Well?

What happened? Did you get your "just desserts", or was it all just wind?

It can cause horrific damage to an unsuspecting beef brisket, liter plastic water bottle, or stack of cardboard.

I am waiting for the Bobby Riot Inactivating Clay Kleaver, or brick for short. Excellent for tactical protests.

So...how does it work as a dart? Is it suitable for throwing? Will it withstand practice throwing and still come out undamaged?

Enquiring minds want to know?

idk if you guys have actually seen this knife in person but one thing you might not appreciate is the size from photos. It's quite a small knife, a lot smaller then one might have though. Also, its not a perfect triangle but more like a low/flattened out isosceles triangle. Also, only 2 of the edges are sharpened. It's also very hard to hold and yeild to be honest. It is unique but not what I expected and IDK if I'd ever really use it. I've never carried mines to be honest and I don't think I ever will. If anything, I'd rather have my safemaker or safekeeper but that's just me. It's not easy or comfortable to carry concealed either to be honest. I wonder how law enforcement would take finding it on you...

It's not a dart, it's a shank although a very nice one. Very good at stabbing and I'd hate to be stabbed by it. The way it's designed, I doubt you could make a better stabbing device which would make a bigger hole in diameter with such a compact blade. Unless you are already an expert knife thrower, you'll ruin it in very quickly and no it won't withstand repeated practice throwing at all. Also, it's not very balanced, the center of gravity is much more closer to the handle.

You'd kind of think they'd put some kind of jimping on the sides of that sharpened spoon to keep your hand from slipping on to the blade.
