First, wanna say "Hi!" to everyone (first post here) :-) Second, I have a question (or rather a little request). I think about buying a new knife - Cold Steel Voyager Med. I have the large one and I love it. So I just wonder, is it not too small for me? I already have CRKT m16-12ZLEK. It is a nice little blade and it feel quite good in my hand - as for such small knife. On the other hand, I had the smallest Cold Steel Counter Strike. It was (I sold it) really nice in my hand, much more better than CRKT, but it was to slow to open - as for me. Now I think about Voyager (Med.) and I think - won't it too small for my hand? And will it be so easy to operate (like CRKT or just better than smallest Counter Strike)? So my request: do you have (or could you do it for me) a pic of both of them (CRKT and CS)? I just want to compare the sizes. Can you dispel my doubts about them? Should I stay with CRKT or take a risk and buy CS? I just look for a good (lock), fast (easy to open) and comfortable (in a large hand, with nice choil and jimping) knife to have it with me in area where 4 inches of blade is treated as a crime.

Hello, and welcome. I can tell you unequivocally that if the choice was between a Cold Steel product or a CRKT product, I'd take the Cold Steel every single time. More durable, vastly better lock, not sure what else there is to be said. Also, I'm not sure as to whether the medium would fit you perfectly, but can tell you that the Voyagers are great work knives in general, so get whichever one you feel best fits the bill.

The voyager hands down is the better knife. Pound for pound one of the best and toughest work/beater knives for the price, period. Not only that, it's FFG blade slices as good or better than top shelf expensive knives. Cold Steel also do a very good heat treat on the new BD1 steel, you can't go wrong.

The Cold Steel is the way to go unless you just love the CRKT. Products made by CRKT are priced high for what you get. They used to be a decent knife for the money but their prices have just gone nuts. You can get a better knife for less money.

Thank you; that helps me too . . . I been looking in here for some Voyager info. I got the hots for my first one. I thought it was going to be the largest one but from YouTubes I think I am finding out the handle is just too big / fat for how I want to handle it. Pun. I knew it was a long handle but thought it was a bit skinnier. There is a thread in Blade Forums on modding the blade that I can't find now but in that thread the handle seemed pretty skinny. The NutinFancy Vid and the PreparedMind101 Vid make the handle look ginormous. Doesn't mean I don't really dig it just that it won't be my first Voyager so will get the mid size the "large" (4 inch blade).

Glad to hear the BD1 is good enough, I think I will do well with it but have read and heard everything from it is one of Sal's favorite steels for EDC to it is squishy stuff only worthy of making tin cans. Not really the latter but pretty close.

Some say it is best toothy and the old AUS8 was better for polished edge. That concerns me but it will be an adventure for me as I have no BD1 at all at this point.

Man . . . heat treated 6061 liners and bronze washers sounds REALLY good to me ! Looking forward to it.

Bd1 is great had it on two Spyderco's basically like moderm 440c not crappy old school 440c with a bad heat treat and takes whatever edge you wish to put on it.

Super ! I love modern 440C
Knife should be in my hot little hands Monday eve.

Wonder if my bosses would mind if I come in late so I can sit and guard the mail box until it arrives. Mail arrives soon after I leave for work (of course).
yah . . . right . . .
I owe, I owe, so off to work I go.
