The Cold Steel Voyager series is a great series of knives. The locks are strong, the edges are KICK ASS sharp, the clips are good and overall for the price they are great folders. So why do they always get flak on the forums? Because the serration pattern is not so good. In fact it is the main beef people have with Cold Steel knives. Well that and the hype

As you can see in the pic above we have a new serration pattern we can now put on Cold Steel knives. We will offer this pattern on current production Cold Steel knives and we will move to other knives as we find the time.

Due to their light weight and convenience, Zytel® handled Voyagers have gained enormous popularity at the expense of heavier, traditional lockbacks with their metal bolsters and wooden scale handles. Our Voyager® Series is the new generation of ultra-light knives and are sure to be the standard by which others are judged for years to come!

The Voyager® Series are made from the same premium AUS 8A stainless steel. They feature precision milled and hand fitted parts with extra stiff springs. This provides a lock that is safer and stronger than most traditional folders. The blades are extremely wide and ground thin at the edge for tremendous shearing potential. This thin edge allows us to hone the blade to astounding sharpness. Plus, the cutting surface is continuously curved along its entire length for the most efficient possible slicing action. Because of the high carbon content in the stainless steel, you'll find that the sharpness really lasts.

If you like serrations, you'll really appreciate our exclusive pattern. It offers the aggressive ripping action of serrated teeth, but with a twist. Our design features groups of very small teeth separated by wide, shallow arcs. This results in the benefits of both a plain and a serrated edge, so that the knife still cuts smoothly through almost any material.


Voyagers®open effortlessly with just one hand, so they're ideal when you're working "short handed." The thumb stud is reversible for left handed operation.



The Voyager® Series offers all the advantages of the latest in lockback construction technology including lightening-quick one-handed opening, light weight and strength, yet without the necessity for unsightly humps or holes in the blade. The result is a more appealing traditional look with very modern styling. Every detail has been designed for maximum performance from the reinforced pivot pin, and the integral clip, to the grooved thumb shelf on the back of the knife for extra traction. Plus, the handle offers a superbly comfortable non-slip grip and it houses the blade in a sleek, super-light package that can be carried all day without effort.

Whoh. Wait a sec, need more details. Is this something new Cold Steel is implementing on all their knives or is BFC getting a special deal from Cold Steel? And you say you can put the serrations at any point on the blade? This is like some kind of wonderful dream. Only problem is I've already got a Voyager and a Vaquero Grande.

Sorry I should have been more specific. I have the ability to put the serration pattern on nearly any knife and at nearly any point on the knife.
I may even do one at the end of a Tanto on the upsweep section.

We do it in house here at BladeForums. It is an exclusive to us. No this is not a Cold Steel Special Project or anything and it will not void your warranty as Lynn is already aware of it.

I tried that and it did not look too good. If you would not care how your knife looks then sure. It is not bad it just ain't good since the pattern does not overlap well.

A Buck 110 Serrated looks cool!

How much do you charge to do a section on a plain edge knife? Can you do false edges that may be a bit wedgie? Marcus
 
Have you ever tried the "outie" or reverse type serrations, as discussed a long time ago (BladeForums time) in another thread? I believe examples of this are on the Buck Intrepid, its custom Carson forebear, and the Mission knives.
 
Do you have a pic of the clip point version?

I am quite surprised that they (CS) agreed with it. My impression was that they were very proud of their pattern and they would never change it - or allow somebody else to do it.

Will other companies agree as well when you "customize" their knives for us?
