People know the triad lock is tough. What people may not comprehend, though, is that when you market something for "hard use" and "for professionals by professionals" it should be guaranteed to withstand forces more than just light arm strength. At least spyderco knives held up to reasonable abuse and they don't even try to say they're hard use knives for professionals. Zero tolerance, though, there's just no excuse. "For collectors by subpar manufacturers" is what the ZT box should say. This is just sad.

A great warranty department means nothing when you're missing your finger because of a shoddy knife that cost a small wad of money. Will ZT pay for your medical bills? Will ZT replace your finger? 2 out of 3 knives failed with very light pressure before the test even began.

People, it's time to rethink your blind loyalty to zero tolerance.

Swell. A fanboy vs fanboy battle. OK. Every time "hater" is used...everybody do a shot.

Hater, hater, hater, hater, hater, hater, hater, hater, hater, hater, hater, hater, hater, hater, hater, hater, hater, hater.

I figured you might enjoy an opportunity to skip the thread, you can thank me when you wake up. ;)

Good idea! I'm on my way to passing out! You're the BEST! I love you, man. Hey! You're not the boss of me! Blagh. zzzz.......

I'm not even a fan of cold steel. This has nothing to do with that, really. It has to do with absolute high priced crap marketed for professionals. Is it REALLY "for professionals?"

Does fit and finish and high price mean anything when you're looking at a bloody stump that used to be your finger?

I'm one of the "professionals" they market to and it's insulting that they'd try to pawn this crap off to me. If my son joined the military and was sent overseas and he lost a finger because I bought him one of these "hard use" knives "for professionals" and I saw this video I'd probably fly to Tualatin and get arrested myself for assaulting someone in the marketing department.

This actually kind of pisses me off, not because they're high priced or i dont like their designs or whatever but because my fellow "professionals" may believe their marketing and wind up permanently hurt because of either 1) bad workmanship or 2) deceitful marketing or both.

People who may need to rely on these tools to save themselves or others deserve much better, especially for the price and what these tools are billed as.

They never claim anything concrete. So they are not on any hook.
They don't really say what kind of professionals or what professionals could use it for. Everything is vague on purpose I guess. Maybe it's for professional CPAs in their free time inside a Starbucks?

But honestly what kind of profession would need a hard use knive with an extremely strong lock?
Military? I bet an SAK slip joint would be best besides the standard issue bayonet which never saw any real action.
To be honest I never even used any blade in the military except during food time on occasions. Spoon was normally sufficient.

So yeah "real world professional use" is actually more true than most think!!!
Now there might be some 0.001 percent professional use where some ninja tank disembowlers are better but that's more the exception than the rule.

About 3 weeks after I gave a Kershaw Boa to a buddy of mine he used it to bust the window out of a burning car and save an unconscious father and his baby daughter by cutting their seat belts and dragging them out. The worst thing that happened was that his hair was singed and he got a really big head for about a month after. He credited the knife i gave him for saving their lives. Imagine if instead of saving their lives he came back with his trigger finger severed and he had to be medically retired because of a knife I gave him. How bad would you feel if that was you? There's some real stuff happening out there even if we never see it.

"Since 1974, Kai USA has brought you what you have come to expect—the very highest quality and most innovative designs available in the knife market today.

With our new line of Zero Tolerance Combat Knives, the legacy continues. We have teamed up with Ken Onion and Strider Knives to bring you a new series of professional-grade combat knives built to survive the harsh, real-world situations that confront you every day. We call it ZT, Zero Tolerance. And that is our ultimate goal—Zero Tolerance in design, Zero Tolerance in function and Zero Tolerance in performance.

Whether you're in the Military, Law Enforcement, Fire and Rescue, on a Response Team, or are an EMS professional, if you demand only the best from your equipment, you will quickly recognize the many benefits that ZT has to offer. Because when you've got a life-and-death job, you need tools that can give you an edge. Zero Tolerance Knives are those tools."

There's nothing I can post except

If I didn't know better I'd think Cold Steel made these videos solely to stoke the flames of fanboy rage. Even Cold Steel's own fanboys. Especially their own fanboys.

Every Zero Tolerance knife I have had has been great quality.
Solid lock-up, good edge retention...just what you'd expect.

It's possible that some of the people spewing vitriol have experienced lemons along the way, but I find it odd that 5 out of 5 have been perfect when I got them, if the quality control is as lax as some profess it to be.
Something doesn't add up...as for me, I will continue to base my opinion on the knives I have owned and used. :)

I wonder if your knives were tested like this if they'd hold up.

Missed the part about the video...
Just skimmed through it...another "test" by Cold Steel...

Their marketing continues along the new path of directly bashing competitor's products, I see.
They used to just show you what their product could do; now they feel the need to try and make sure you don't want anyone else's.

I feel the desire to buy another Cold Steel product becoming less and less with every video they make these days.

Amen.

You should build a company based on your own product's merits, not by smearing other companies' products.

One of the ones listed by ZT.
Whats with all the secret squirrel nonsense?
Do you take "dietary supplements"?

When was the last time Cold Steel won an industry award and was recognized by insiders for their quality and designs?

Good thing I don't buy my knives specifically to withstand spine whacks. If cold steel made a flipper with a titanium handle, bearings in the pivot, and an M390 blade I may be interested. Until then, I'll enjoy my limited edition ZTs.
