Cold Steel

Well, of all the mid-range knives I've bought, CS seems to be anything but hit or miss. I reckon you can say the same thing about any knife company. I've got two CRKT knives that will not sharpen to razor sharpness. Others can be, though. I've had enough misses with CRKT that I doubt I'll buy another. Still, I've got one of their S-2 (large) in my back pocket now and it's a great knife. Titanium frame, ATS-34 blade, frame lock and sharp as a razor. Paid twenty-five bucks for it post paid, new, when Smokey Mountain was trying to sell out of them.

I've got a Desert Cruiser that's so dull I can't tell which is the cutting edge, top or bottom. I've never been unable to get a Cold Steel wicked sharp with even a pocket sharpener. I like edges where they'll slice cleanly through paper sideways with just a stroke. I also like the fact that Cold Steel polishes many of their blades. Bead blast finishes are an eye sore, plus they rust/corrode easier.

Also, with new people swinging into this site, you're going to get some of the same questions over and over, especially with the search feature not working. Add to that that companies can change almost overnight. Gerber went bad very quickly. They just stopped listing their knife steels and began getting real vague. Many of their present knives aren't as good as a lot of Maxams I've seen. It's very disheartening.

I have a cold steel X2 Voyager 6 inch plain edge and I love it. For a big knife it carries well IWB on my right side,, dont even know its there. I will buy more from CS.

cold steel knives are marketed for sd use.Now I wouldn't bet my life on aus8a or their famous rip off vg1 san mai either.I would go to emerson or spyderco way before cold steel.

yes I wrote the buck knives thread and they did not get my joke Bors I would like to know what your reference to my previous thread has to do with this one it does not make a bad person or the like I just made a mistake

Oh man, not Cold Steel again. I'm bored already... Do some searching! And to sum it up: Some CS products are just fine, others are crap, and most of their advertising is quite questionable and almost nobody likes LT, especially since the trip to Australia. Btw, I like those horse emoticons...:D

The search feature will not work for non-paying members, I saw that it was causing too many delays for other users. Needless to say, the Cold Steel issue has been discussed too many times. I like some models, and I think that some models would do just fine, such as the Kukri machete, but I now do not like the fact alot of things are made in Communist China, and the recent happenings with the animal killings have made me even more skeptical of the ad hype. I admit I have not seen it, but the comments posted by others who have have convinced me to shop other knife companies.

i have seen that cold steel makes a few knives that are worth the price. like the bushman which i love. if i buy cold steel i buy it because i need a knife to beat the crap out of. lynn tompson drives me nuts though, the man needs to take to heart the phrase " speak softly but carry a big stick". let quality speak for itself.

IMHO, Cold Steel is great. And i think there is more controversy about marketing tactics, countries producing CS products, than the actual quality of there knives.

Most of their knives are good stuff for the $ They do have a few weird items & a few overpriced items but for the most part they have some nice Stuff;) So far everything I've purchased from them I have been completely satisfied with !

Don't you just love Cold Steel threads (Or Mantis, RAZR, Dork Ops?)

At least they gime me an excuse to dig up my dead horse emoticons:

To the OP: let me guess... you're a schoolkid, and school's out for summer... and you've got too much time on your hands...

Anyway, to mask the smell of dead horse, take a look at this:

Aint that much nicer and less controversial to talk about?

Kind regards,

Jos

I'll take it. Will trade you the Cold Steel knife of your choosing. ;)

:D You know where you can stick your cold steal?:foot: :D

;) anyway, I don't own this beauty. just a pic I stole on the internet...

I bought 5, CS. Voyagers about three years ago. 2-LG, 2-XL, 1-2XL. I use both the XL's quite a lot and think they are an excellent bargain at the price. I like the 5" blades and the fact that they are very light and inconspicuous when clipped into my jeans front pocket.

But after reading of LT's killing spree in Australia, I can no longer support CS.

Even if the meat was then given to people who need it, the principal motivation behind the slaughter was to promote a product. Hunting, which is a natural human instinct, is one thing. But commercialized killing is both perverted and obscene.

Sorry LT. Ya lost me. As they say in old Mexico City, "A"dios "M"y "F"riend! :D

What killing spree can I google that? Basically there are better knives than CS and there are worse knives than CS,if you're lucky enough you can stay out of the politics of company vs. company and just look at a knife as a knife good or bad.I don't think LT's bashing other brands or running his mouth affects the quality of CS knives, just go cut something!

After Thompson's Killing Spree, Down-Under, I will not purchase another Cold Steel product, Ever.

Me too. I respect deer hunting, and some good people I know love the sport and respect the environment.

Watching Lynn C. giggling as he runs from majestic animal to animal killing needlessly...my enthusiasm for the company dissolved.

Too bad, I like my Hatamoto and Spectre and wanted a Calladonian Edge...
