Cold Steel's Atlas Lock Test featuring the new Engage 3.5"

Either lock could be made arbitrarily strong by just increasing the size of components so it's really more about the strength of a specific implementation than strength of a lock design.
Finally, someone who science and logic.

This is a 3.5” knife with plastic handle. Comparison has to be made with knives of similar size, thickness & material.

haven't seen this knife yet..so all plastic handle...no steel or metal inserts?

knifecenter listed it as GFN handle, the 2.5” version a youtuber got uses GFN handle also. Coldsteel catalog and some prototypes shown in shot show had liners.

all the partially lined CS models like the g10 espada and sr1 are clearly visible. So Ima gonna guess not lined.

Ive seen it for 154.99 somewhere else, looks pretty cool now that i see better pictures of it. Hope stickmans mailman doesnt put the wrong mail in his box .

I still want to see their new miracle Tri-ad killer on an XL Espada sized folder .

Static weight hanging is OK ,but step up, GSM , with a new BAK that out-performs what I've already got .

Actual forces exerted in use on a 5.5" - 7.5" blade (with even longer handles) is much greater than a 3-3.5 " .

And don't expect to demand premium prices with no meaningful customer support . Service and parts for what you sell !:thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

Wait it's not even G10 but it costs $165?

Nope, the 3.5" $249 msrp/$165 street version is s35vn and the scales are 3d machined g10 (and is quite comfy). Fit and finish on it are pretty solid, but like the shark lock, the actuating nubbin is a bit aggressive. Blade length is a bit optimistic. More like 3.25" overall and 3" cutting length. I was mildly necroposting to see what people thought. It's a bit odd all the ruffled feathers.

The cheap version with cheap steel is $49 street. So for all the people complaining GFN and 4116 should be $39, well you got close. The lock needs some precise machining, plus inflation is inflationing.

If they would offer the 3" in a better steel I might think about getting one

Oddly, if you look at the 3.5" engage product page ( CS-FL-30DPLC-35 ), it comes up with suggested items at the bottom, one of which is the 3" knife without the choil in S35VN, It's hard to tell if it is GFN or G10 from the pics, and the copy is cut and paste. So you might get your wish. Either that or their webmaster needs to purge a dead product page for something that got canned. It's MSRP is $179.99, and I wonder how much street price will discount that.

As for the people comparing it to the bushman, it's got a dash of bushman dna in the lock maybe, but it's significantly different. I mean I've got a pocket bushman, and they are on different planets in terms of fit, finish, materials, rigidity, etc.

Here’s mine. Handles feel like G10 to me rather than GFN. Cool knife.

Interesting...but in the description it says 3.5". Would be a nice surprise, but everything I've heard says the smaller ones will be 4116.

Wasatch , where did you get it and how much? would you say its silky smooth or less than silky?

Got this from BladeHQ, $164.95. Looks like they’re out of stock at the moment. I wouldn’t say it’s silky smooth, feels a bit mechanical out of the box. I imagine it will break in with time. The jimping on the lock is a bit on the aggressive side. In hand it reminds me of the AD10.

thanks!! neeves knives on youtube has a excellent teardown and comparison with the shark lock. One cool thing is you could jb weld a tab towards the front of the lock and have a two position lock release. Looks pretty cool

Since I'm too lazy to read up on the link policy re: shops, and too polite to just say screw it, here's a screen cap.

I don't know if the grumpy face was for not believing me or not liking the take on blade size. I mean they aren't alone in this. the 3.5" CJRB krag I got is almost exactly the same size with the same 32.5" claim.

Here is the krag, ad-15, engage, and manix 2 XL all lined up at the end of the grip. The first 3 are 3.5" according to manufacturer. The last is 3.85".

Here's measuring from the flat front of the grip as best I could. I'm being a tad generous here as I'm catching the start of the slope.

It feels a lot smaller than the AD-15, which over delivers. However, closed length loses nearly a half inch over the ad-15.

I like the knife, I just think it'd be better to call it a 3.25" or 3.375" Cause it's about 3 3/8" for all practical purposes.
