Cold Steel's Serrations?

I have had a few CS with serrations over the years. when I worked in a fitness center many years ago, I used a cheap CS double edged blade that came out the front like an exacto knife to cut and shape inch thick rubber mats that we lay down to protect the floors. enough to cover a 300 square foor room I had to cut and shape pieces around pillars as well as shape them to fit a room that had no right angles. tghe carpet cutters the other guys used sucked the CS held up fine. the serrations while not sharp any more still cut pretty good. I'd still have that knife if my dog hadn't found and chewed up th handle. still have the blade though. the teeth still look good

Got a 10 year old tanto-point voyager that's fully serrated. It's still my go-to knife for cardboard and heavy-duty shredding.

I have an old gen 1 voyager and while the serrations cut fine they seem to rip rather than cut , you can't slice paper like with spyderco serrations ( which are much better IMO )

When CS serrations are new, they are very sharp and can slice paper cleanly. However, the points of the teeth tend to rip/shred fibrous material during a slice. If the blade steel is VG1 (older versions), the edge retention on the scallops is good but chipping can occur. On the current AUS8 blades, edge retention is fair with no chipping. Serrations can cut fibrous materials reasonably well when dull, but the cut (or the tearing/shredding) is rough.

CS serrations are OK provided the points do not chip. Spyderco serrations are better than CS's. Kershaw makes the best designed serrations, the scallops are convex (stronger than concave) and the points are rounded.

CS serrations remind me of infomercial knives where they cut a can in half then slice a tomato.

They sure aren't durable but they are incredibly sharp when new. I used one once to trim a xmas tree limb in order to get the stump into the base and when I looked at the serrations I had broken off some of the teeth. If I had my choice i'd go with a Spyderco FS knife over CS.
