Cold Steel's Ultra lock, and the Recon 1?

Oh i see. Seems like everyone here has a dilike about think knife. Which is really bringing me to think twice before buying it... Ill look around at the store where I was thinking of getting the knife, and maybe changing my mind if the guy in the store will let me see the knife before buying it.

thanks again

Oh just buy it. If you're anything like the rest of us here it's not the only knife you'll own and if you don't like it then trade it, sell it or give it away. I own a Recon I clip point and it's fine. The only thing I really don't like much about it is the handle material, but then I also say the same thing about the Ritter Grip.

ya your right, ill probibly just buy it. I eman the handle is supposed to be real lightweight but extreamly strong. I know it probibly doesent give you that certain feeling you expect while holding it, but its probibly just the material used. But yeah I might even find something else in the store to catch my eye.

Isn`t cold steel the only company that if you break the tip off the knife even a throwing knife they will replace it as long as its not a factory 2nd?
I have a recon folder and being a knife thrower thats the first thing I did... It throws great its not meant for it but at 12 ft I stick it fine.

Cold will not warranty a knife broken by abuse. They will only replace the knife under warranty if it breaks due to a factory defect or in normal use. Throwing a folder is not considered normal use.

You know, I have always liked a few of the Cold Steel knives, but I would never supportr a company that has a leader that bad mouths other companies and then does exactly what the other companies got badmouthed for. In my opinion Lynn Thompson is a choad.

Coldsteel did that? Thats a shocker. I guess... and I guess I cant blame you for not wanting to support them. But I still think there knives are cool and will probibly purchase some.

Yep, the one that got to me the most was when he wrote that any reputable company that would sell their customers a knife with a blade made from 420 steel was ripping them off and then shortly afterwards Cold Steel was using 420 steel.

Keith is right on that. I have an older Special Products catalog where LT says that 420 is junk, and that they only use AUS-8, AUS-10 and Carbon V. Now, because it's "Sub-zero quenched", 420 is supposedly one of the best steels around. Yeah, right, man. I don't care what steel you use, be it 420j2, 50100B or AUS-10, but at least be consistent in your treatment of what it is.

I have no issues with CS itself. I don't care for their marketing campaigns, but that is just me. Their carbon steel knives are supposedly pretty good (don't own one, so I go from what I hear), though pricey. I can't really speak to their folders other than what I read and can empirically know (steel type, lock type) from my brief handling of them.

But hey I bought that recon 1 and I think its a pretty awesome knife. I dont see anything wrong with it.

Seems like the best lessons learned either cause pain or cost money. Hopefully it's not both at once. LOL Use that thing hard then get back to us on how awesome it is.

A praiseworthy second knife purchase might be a spyderco or benchmade perhaps. Both are high quality, use high quality steels, and are available for reasonable amounts; some probably cost less than that cold steel you picked up.

. And I was wondering if anyone has ever used the ultra lock, since it is exclusive to Cold Steel i was needing to know if its good, and is the Recon 1 a good first decent knife to buy?

A certain company mentioned in this thread reminds me of those shameless thugs that try to sell CRAP on cable tv in the early morning hours, with their annoying infomercials with tons of smiling liars and even more fine print.

Put another way, if somene was to give me a FREE product from that company, I still would not take it.
