Suck it up. Acclimation is a huge part. Once your body starts burning more calories to produce heat, all you have to do is keep food in your stomach and stay dry and you can stay comfortable in much colder weather. I grew my hair out down to my shoulders, offers a ton of insulation and makes life much more enjoyable in the winter. I put up with it all summer long (it really wasn't that bad, saved my neck and ears from alot of sunburn) so that I can reap the benefits in the winter. I spent the last winter on a lake in the mountains building a cabin (while I lived in it) fighting 7-8 feet of snow. Most days were between 15 and 20 degrees and worked in nothing heavier than a long sleeve teeshirt. The only thing I had to worry about were the hands, while holding metal tools all day they get cold faster. There's definitely an attitude you need to approach enjoying the cold, but it can be done! A nice wool sweater really helps too.
