Cold weather survival knife recommendations

As a few others have said a "samekniv" is a great option:

In some situations, extreme cold can weaken the hull of the Titanic and your knife blades, so I'd tend to go with the people who favour stronger carbon steels. Sweating and rusting are going to be a bit of a fight, but it's one that people before any of us have been dealing with in the bush. Then again 14C28N is slightly tougher than 80CrV2, plus it's stainless, so that's a thing. The Casstrom Swedish Forest Knife No. 10 comes in 14C28N.

This thread inspired me, so since it was -21 c/-6 f, I went into the woods:

Both are fulltang, but didn’t notice anything from the exposed metal. Used gloves rhe whole time. The Winkler continues to impress. I should have brought my Strømeng or a Helle, just for show but right now I’m in a ffg fase..

One side is convex other side is flat .I believe that is how Yakut knifes are made ? BTW , I like then ,good design ;)

So is the actual blade grind convex on one side and flat on the other or is it just the edge. ?

Why would you settle for a 6" knife when you could have 7.5" of TOPS straight-up viciousness?...

Why would you settle for 1095 dumbed down to 56-58 Rc with a Saber grind when you could have the same blade in 15n20 with a full height grind and have higher hardness, better toughness and better geometry with improved cutting efficiency?

Just sayin'. 😉 😁

Thanks to everyone for the wealth of knowledge and replies. I'm steady checking into a number of them.

Id love to use the issued equipment, lot of sense there, but haven't been issued a knife and doesn't seem to be plans to do so. If they throw us any issue gear I certainly plan on testing that out as well. It's been negative -20 out the last few days and there's definitely logic behind the encased handles, be they wood or a synthetic.

I don't know, I am not knowledgeable about this. I thought the characteristic feature of the yakut knife was its one side of the blade has a fuller, that is a groove in it and a chisel grind, and the other side a convex edge. Just like this:
