My best friend and I usually get eachother knives for the holidays. This year he got me a coldsteel master tanto with the san mai steel its a beautiful knife!!! but I was wondering if it serves any practical purpose in an outdoor/survival sense

sure, I've read of many people liking it, but in the end its going to come down to whether or not you like it though ;)

Good rugged tool; I've used mine for butchering, the nice curve of the edge of the CS tanto works fine for slicing, and it has a great grip. The tip is a little clumsy but it's not liable to snap off on you.

Should work fine. I use a Kobun and it's been a good blade in the field. I use it from fish cleaning, cooking and whatever cutting I need done.
