Somebody besides me has to own one of these knives. Anyone have any thoughts on the ultra lock. I'm on my second one, CS sent me a new one and the ultra lock seems to unscrew or loosen itself when you cycle the knife open and closed repeatedly. anyone got this problem or is it designed to fall apart. dtsoll

I had planned on buying one, until I got a chance to look at one in person. I don't like the pocket clip on it and it's unusually heavy. The screws on the Ultra Lock looked kind of cheesy.

Hmm...that doesn't sound too good. Have you tried to loctite it?

I had the same problem -- the screws on the "ultra lock" would unscrew slightly with each opening. I called Cold Steel customer service, they said, "this was not normal. Do not attempt to repair it yourself" and that it was a safety hazard. They also said it only 1% of the knives shipped were returned for this problem. I returned it stating that I would accept a San Mai III Master Tanto in Trade if they had no working recon 1's (hehe). Will letya know how this gets resolved.

I had the same exact problem..but the lock would kind of "grab" the knife and not allow it to close. Dont get me wrong..after some pretty good force the blade would close..but with a brand new edge..I was a little more than fearful of it. I took it back to the store I bought it from and the guy kinda looked at me dumbfounded..until he tried it for himself and promptly took a nice size chunk out of his finger and ended up in the emergency room...

I warned him...poor guy.
