Anyone obsessed with watching these videos? It's good to see how they test them but I'm wondering why they don't cut the plastic stuff before they cut the pig torso's. Daniel Tosh poked a little fun at this saying "you're telling me your pork sword can pop balloons?"

I'm thinking about making some purchases though. Any must haves?

I know a lot of people around here don't care for their videos. Personally.....I like them and cold steel does make a good quality product for the most part.

In a completely crazy extreme way, they do get their point across as being very durable products at least. I'm just trying to decide if I do go with purchasing a CS blade of some sort which should I go with basically.

As far as a must have........I'm a huge tomahawk and kukri freak......the cold steel SK5 Gurkha is a must have. Incredible kukri. I have a few modern made Kukri from other companies as well as several Himalayan import kuks, and FOR ME.......nothing comes close to the CS SK5 Gurkha. Love it.

A chubby guy hacking at a bag of swinging meat is corny no matter how you try to characterize it. But the videos have grown on me, and my Cold Steel arsenal has gone from zero to maybe 25 in the process. But underlying the goofiness of the videos is the reality that Cold Steel knives are just sick. They are well designed, well made, have probably the strongest lock in the industry, and aren't spendy. No titanium and ball bearing pivots here. Just sick, sick slabs of AUS8 steel with killer lockup and pocket-shredding, bulletproof G10 or "grivory" scales. Don't let the videos dissuade you.

Must haves, you say? Recon 1, Lawman, and Voyager. All sizes. And grab a fixed blade like the Recon Scout.

Their GI tanto is probably their best value for an all around good knife. Just a thick piece of steel with some handles. $25.

Thanks everyone! That "chubby guy" has some skills I've noticed. I'd definitely not go toe to toe with him in anything other than a jogging contest

I must admit that cutting a quarter in half with a knife is mighty impressive.

I don't have many cold steel knives (I don't have many knives period compared to many here though, cold steel is second to Spyderco for me) but the ones I have I have no regrets with. I expect a lot of value out of my knives and cold steel provides that. I say you can't go wrong with a voyager and a couple of their "lite" fixed blades (roach belly, Finn bear, tanto, outdoorsman). The hold out is one of my favorite looking knives a out there. The smallest version didn't quite have it, but if I can ever convince myself to get a folder over 4 inches it will probably to the full size hold out.

A lot people give Lynn crap for his marketing and even ripping off knife designs. He doesn't rip off designs any more than any one else does in the industry, he's just a little more bold about it maybe. In the grand scheme of things, there are no new designs anyway. It's all been done before. Just a different twist here and there

Get the old Voyager in VG-1. Unless you're dead set on that Tri Ad lock. I just can't bring myself to buy AUS-8 for the sake of the lock. AUS-8 can easily get razor sharp, but it doesn't take much at all to dull the edge. Kind of a pain. The VG-1 I had seemed like it couldn't be dulled, and the blade slid out of the handle with liquid smoothness.

I have a Recon 1, and I love it. However, the black coating is wearing off in come places. I have the 4" version. Looking to get the 5 1/2" one as well.

Man, I must have gotten all of cold steels flukes in the good direction. The aus8 on my voyager is just amazing. It's strange/interesting how people can have such different experiences.

The coating has worn off mine too. Very quickly. Meh, I kinda like how it looks.

I found this absolutely hilarious :D To stay on topic, I love their videos from an entertainment standpoint. Ridiculous torture tests are always fun for me, regardless of the product being advertised. If I liked lock backs, Cold Steel would be one of the top two brands for me. But I don't like lock backs, so I don't have any Cold Steel knives....:o

Don't have any CS folders yet, but what got me into knives was a Cold Steel Master Tanto that i saw and handled in the mid-90s.
since the CS Tanto seems to have played a significant part in making them popular in the 80s, and they still make them, imo they are a "must have"...

Master Tanto (San Mai - Aus8a)
Magnum Tanto II (VG1 San Mai) x2
Recon Tanto (VG1 San Mai)
Kobun (Aus8a)
Tanto Lite (Krupps 4116)

Those are definitely nice looking

Not the most practical for me to use but they would be a cool display piece. If I had pig torsos or giant lengths of rope all over the place I'd consider it.
