Coldsteel Videos

Some CS knives I like.

Some I dont (not a fan of oversize folders)

I have a few CS knives (no folders though). Mostly SanMai and CarbonV.

Ive never understod the vitriolic outbursts if not downright hate directed against CS over other knife companies.

Some people harp on and on and on about the videos. Just dont watch them, if you hate LT and the action in the videoes. Why torment yourself?

I effing hate soccer and tend to avoid it - I dont seek out soccer matches or watch the 'carp' on TV. Why watch something you hate!

What ever one thinks about LT and the knife promotional videoes - the knife in the videoes does what it says on the tin (or in the videoes).

Cold Steel makes very nice budget knives in a "traditional inspired" way that can't disappoint (in that price range) : Roach Belly, Pendleton Lite, Finn Bear, Canadian Belt. They also make very beautiful (and small !!!) knives : the Sizu (a pepped Finn Bear) and the Custom Pendleton Hunter. At prices ridiculing my wallet and common sense : who wouldn't go for a custom ? (they are in (over ?) custom price range !!!). Just my two pence here. Their testing videos may be seen as stoopid but what I see there is people having fun and being proud of their products. That makes me deal with the "stoopid" approach and the growing trend to oversized blades and "dark ops" style. I wish they could expand on the "normal sized/high quality/utility" knife segment. Micarta is no reason for rocketing prices and VG" whatever N°" currently gets affordable. Come on Lynn, some of us like small knives. Listen to the small people.

Cold Steel's videos are part of the reason why they're my favorite company. They have fun with what they do, while proving that their knives are what they say they are. That proof is important to me, because I'm not generally one to buy talk.

Their videos have had a fairly strong influence on the knife industry, and now other companies like Benchmade make similar testing videos. A company that backs up its claims with proof earns my respect. I wish Spyderco did the same. I wouldn't be such a big Cold Steel fan if it wasn't for the videos. And, now that I saw some Benchmade tests, my respect for Benchmade has grown exponentially and I've got a custom Griptilian on the way.

What's in my pocket now? Cold Steel. What's that knife on my keychain? Cold Steel. The survival knife in my pack? Cold Steel. What knife am I buying next? Probably another Benchmade or Cold Steel.

For some knife enthusiasts like myself, that video proof is very, very important. Now I'm wary of buying knives from companies who don't provide video proof.

The videos are kinda funny.
The knives are rather good.
I wish they'd offer more steel choices, but it appears that this year begins that trend.

The videos don't make me want to buy any knives, but they also don't dissuade me from doing so. :)

Wow! Since when has anything on a video been considered "proof"? Anything can be made to look like anything on video. Do camels actually become obnoxious English speakers on Wednesday? They must 'cause I saw proof on TV. Videos are good for entertainment and for getting a general feel for a product and company. I put a lot more stake on the opinions of real world users. Most of my knives are Spydercos. The experiences I've had as well as the opinions of others here about the product, the company and the man behind them are way more "proof" than a video would be.

You seem to be implying that there is something fraudulent about said test videos, which would be a very serious claim to make.

I said that I'm wary, not that I won't buy from a company like Spyderco, whose products have been well proven by knife users for what, 30 years now? That said, they make some funky stuff that I'm just not into, but they make some blades that are on my must-buy list, like the Manix 2 XL.

I still wish they would offer test videos, though.

I'm not saying there's anything fraudulent going on. I'm just saying that a video is not "proof" of anything. I own some CS products because they are good products which have proven to reliably do a job, not because of a video of a large person in spandex cutting a pig carcass or meat filled boot. I own a couple of Benchmades, used to own a lot, but it's because of the knives themselves, not because of a test video. I own some Kershaw (no AO's and all American made) but it's not because of their forum or lack thereof. I own many Spydercos because, after selling all my knives due to a financial problem they were the ones that filled my needs best. Their intensive in-house testing, willingness to use untried materials and Sal's presence on three different Spyderco forums are just icing on the cake.

I own a lot of CS knives, I like all of them, I wish I owned more Becker knves but I'll get them some day. Anything CS puts out is going to be hi quality.

Man, I must have gotten all of cold steels flukes in the good direction. The aus8 on my voyager is just amazing. It's strange/interesting how people can have such different experiences.

I work with a company that makes paper. You wouldn't believe how fast I can dull an edge in that place. I can't use anything with less edge retention than vg-10 or I'll be resharpening every few hours.

Manix 2 XL is surprisingly thin for such a large knife. I wanna say 3mm. It's definitely thinner at the base than a PM2 which I believe is 3.5mm? Anyway, size wise it compares to ZT/ColdSteel/etc, but it's a slicer at heart.

And what a slicer it should be, with that broad, attractive FFG leaf blade! Spyderco's leaf shaped, awesome slicing blades are something they definitely have over their competitors.

Cant say it much better than this. Cold Steel is in my pocket, my survival pack, and with me wheneveri need a knife. Incredible products. I love the videos personally.

I have only saw one video because there was no internet when I heard about Cold Steel.
The tests I saw done in the pictures with the Tanto got my attention.
I bought the san mai Master Tanto and put it through everything they did and more.
I still own it and carry it daily..
I do not work for them .... I'm not a fan boy... I have countless edged tools of many makers.
The products they offer stand up to what they say they will if treated within reason and use it for the intended use..
The video I saw was entertaining with a lot of cutting.....Isn't that what you buy a knife for?
A must have?
If you're going in the bush then a SRK, Recon Scout and/or a Trailmaster, any one of the hatchets.
For edc carrying in the streets I carry my Hatamoto long since discontinued but the Voyageur,Hold Out,Recon1 I would recommend because I am familiar with carrying those models.

I appreciate all the recommendations all! I'll let you know what I decide on. Just got a Bucklite Max so I have to wait a little otherwise wife will yell.
