ColdSteel VS. Benchmade VS. Spyderco

I greatly prefer Benchmade, Spyderco and Kershaw, in roughly that order. I like them more than a lot of genuinely high end productions, like Sebenzas and Striders.

But, FYI, none of the knives you listed are high end even for production knives. Those are beaters. Good knives though. I recommend the girp/mini grip. I've gone through almost every different version (I've had 4, but gave them all away).

I can't tell you anything about the BM, because I've never really had an opportunity to handle any (except for the Apparition). The CS I've picked up seemed more along the lines of CRKT knives, good users but nothing to write home about. I bought my Dad a Delica for his birthday back in July, and would have to say the it has the most comfortable/usable handle shape of any knife that I've picked up. He's used it every day and said he only need to resharpen it after he field dressed a deer with it, and that included sawng through some bone. Personally I'd recommend one of the Spydercos.

The Delica is very comfortable, as are all spydercos, but really, it's one of the least comfortable knives Spyderco makes. This isn't something bad about Spyderco, it's really me trying to say how good Spyderco can get. Try a dodo or a Manix out, it'll really make you think handles.

Well so far its between Benchmade and Spyderco. The finish on the cold steel is a bit Lacking. The problem is that there is only one shop that stocks Benchmade and I have some driving to do to get there. I will probably go in the new year when prices come down a bit after Chrismas. Then I will spend probably two hours diciding on which knife to buy etc....... I have to feel it before I buy it!

Till then my CRKT M16-14LE, Swiss Army Knife and Kershaws are my main EDC and NO problems with any of the knives!

PS.

In South Africa paying R700 (about the price of a Spyderco Endura and a Benchmade Griptilian) is a bit expensive so these knives I consider as "high end" folders. I do not like Strider or Chris Reeves. The Sebenza is R3000. I feel Chris can do a bit better for his home country.

Point taken on the prices. Didn't take geography into account.

I know! Because we are so far South everything is a bit more expensive and there is VAT on everything!!!!!

What is the feeling on the Benchmade 720 model?

And can someone tell me how on earth do I change my aviatar?

Sorry, you have to be a paying member to have an avatar. Hey, all the more reason to support a great site though right?

True. This site is a great site! I have really learnd alot about what to look for when buying a knife. The fit and finish around the pivot etc... all new to me. I have decided to order a Benchmade 551 for the new year, but I will go to our Cutlery store and compare it to what is in its price range from Spyderco's line. Feel it in my hand before I buy it for good.

Thanks for everyones help.
