Coldsteel warrior o tanto vs Crkt Hisshou

Laughing at CRKT's marketing while comparing to Cold Steel? Do you know about Lynn Thompson?

Honestly they are, imho, both quality blade from the companies they are from. As a weapon, I would go with the Hissou, but that is it's sole purpose, so it's design would not lend itself to much else. The CS design coud be practical for other things. That said, they both are swords, so what other purpose would either have?

Bump on old thread..but, sometimes I think people beat around the bush when it come to the reason they buying a specific tool or weapon like the O Tanto. I would love to have this blade for defense, I walk my dog at night alot, and it would be nice for general self defense. I would have no problem slicing into some would be thug or gang low life. My two cents. Its what this blade was meant to do, cleave into bone and flesh. not cut milk jugs in two and video it.

How about you not bump a thread that is two years old, and start a new one?

As far as "slicing into some would be thug or gang low life", post your cv/experience, or stfu....there is Prac-Tac for wannabe's. James Williams has never killed anyone in the heat of battle or claimed to....others would do well to follow suit.

i love my hisshou. It's an amazingly lethal blade design.

Having never used the other one, i can't compare, but i don't seem much chance of being disappointed with the hisshou

The Hisshou has much more belly and is a full tang construct, it's actually built for military use. I would be leery of the handle construction in the Cold Steel.

It doesn't matter now, since the guy already made the decision, but I don't think his intended use is that relevant at all. He explained that he likes both knives and that all he wanted to know was about the strength and durability of them which is all the information we need. His intended use isn't necessarily any of my business.

I don't know much about the knives, but strength and durability wise it seems the thin tip of the Hisshou might be slightly more fragile than the Cold Steel piece if you feel like making a Cold Steel style car hood test with it, but that tip also makes the blade look a lot more badass.

I'd put the Hisshou's penetration up against the Cold Steel into a car hood, or just about anything else. Minus any lateral force, the Hisshou wins. My two cents. It's basically a very thick zero degree v grind with a great sweeping belly made for deep slicing combined with superior penetration. I love mine but hope I never have too carry it.

I have a few Hiisshou's and they are very nice but have relatively thin edges and would not make for a good brush or utility blade

The Kydex/plastic sheath that comes with them will give you more secure carry options over a traditional saya

Good luck

Old thread but still useful for comparing these two swords.

Did someone say the o tanto is not full tang? I don't see that info on cs website. What about ease of sharpening? Is the grind on the o tanto convex?
