I had never heard of this thing until today. My mother bought one for my father last week (at Wal-Mart), and he showed it to me today, with a little grimace/grin.
It's a silver cylinder about three inches long, and as big around as a quarter.
It has a clip, a keyring, and a little thing like a carabiner for attaching it to anything and everything.
Runs off a AA battery, "Creates an electronic barrier which effectively repels mosquitos", and has a two year warranty.

I think it's some yuppie gadget, but who knows? Has anybody actually tried one of these things (we promise not to make fun of you:p)?
He's going to the Phillipines for 3 weeks, so maybe he'll find out (though she bought him so many different insect repellents, mosquitoes are probably going to be dropping out of the sky as soon as they get within 50 yards of him, anyway).

Scary warning (disclaimer) on back of package:
There are over 150 species of mosquitoes in the US alone, over 2500 species in the world:eek:. This unit may not be effective against all species, blah, blah.

Any other incredibly useful:rolleyes:, high-tech accoutrements out there that we should know about?

Are we talking about a device that emits a continuous, barely audible, very high pitched noise? I have another version of this, a solar powered one. (No need to make fun of me; mine came free with an order from Real Goods.)

As far as I can tell, they don't work. I know that the claim is that they work on some species and not others. I've traveled far and wide, and (since they weigh practically nothing) I keep taking the thing with me and hoping. I have yet to encounter the elusive specie of mosquito that is repelled by them.

I thought that female mosquitoes were deaf. The males don't bite. Hence such gadgets are useless. Funny that a reputable firm like Coleman would market such a thing, if that's true.
