Collect knives and...

I collect knives, guns, and insects. Knives i have a hard time holding on too(selling) since i actually am more of a user then collector of knives.

knives and also watches. i have a small collection of seiko and citizen divers and just recently bought an omeaga seamaster.

I also used to collect watches. Was always partial to Automatic divers and G-Shocks. I think that fever broke. I sold off my more expensive pieces and now only have 8 or 10 that are either sentimental or get regularly worn in rotation.

I am a serial hobby'ist waiting for the next bright and shiny thing to help keep me occupied for the next 5 years.

I tried collecting watches... Couldn't justify having so much money tied up in stuff I don't use. I own my grail watches today.

I have a few watches as well. Nice footwear has also been an interest of mine, as well of late a few guns, and a couple pens.

In addition to knives (and the empty boxes they came in), I have a few other collectibles...
I used to have a few hundred autographed baseballs but when I moved recently I gave away the bulk of my collection and only kept the ones that I liked the best. I think I'm down to 60 or so right now all packed up in boxes.
I've started collecting small, pocket flashlights...that's a whole new way to spend money, trust me...
My wife and I collect Star Wars memorabilia. It was actually her collection but after marriage we both keep adding stuff to it.
We're getting a pretty good collection of bladed weapons of all sorts, some real, some decorative, but there's something to be said for having a boar spear on the wall...

I also collect hats and watches. Unfortunately no Omegas which I truly love, but a number of Tissots, Seikos and an Orient brand automatic Mako. In the hat department I have mostly fur felts and panama style straw hats as well as a collection of Stormy Kromers and Tilleys. I wear a hat every time I leave the house, summer or winter. Mostly Stetson and Akubra (4th generation Family owned and managed hat manufacturer out of Australia) for three of the four seasons until I worry my ears may drop off from the bitter cold.

Watches and knives take up a lot less space then hats so count yourselves lucky there.

I think all of my items are practical even if I have too many. For all of them they do get a regular rotation of use and I love to admire them and love the anticipation of something new coming in the mail.

Some have a strong sentimental value.

My Tilley LTM5 hat which I have been wearing over a dozen years. It is my traveling sun hat as it packs so well and I have taken it on every family trip from cottages, to camping, to cruises, to Europe and the Caribbean and Mexico. So many family vacation photos with me smiling in my Tilley.

My Tissot PR100 that I purchased in Chicago as a matching set for my wife and I about 17 years ago. Still both running strong and my wife recently told me it was one of the nicest gifts I ever got her.

A Victorinox ALOX Soldier I have had longer than I can remember. It was my true "pocket knife" for well over 20 years. I have purchased a number of them as gifts for my male family and friends over the years I liked them so much. Just so much usefulness packed into a small package.

On another website I participate in "The Fedora Lounge" there was a gentleman years back who signed all of his comment entries with something like - "Never leave the house without a good watch, a nice hat and a sharp knife." I believe he said those were words of advice to him from his grandfather. That line always rang so true to me.

Have fun collecting!

I collect slide rules. Didn't start out to, just kind of slipped up on me.

I had my full size and pocket model Picketts that I went through college with (electrical engineering). Friend in church (aeronautical engineering) gave me his slide rule after I helped him move into his new home. Inherited my predecessor's predecessor's slide rule at work, and old K&E that actually had "patent pending" printed on it. Local office supply went out of business and I picked up two circular slide rules, a full size and a pocket model, off their $2 clearance table. Hey, I had a collection!

Walked into a bookstore on my old college campus and asked the old guy there if they still had slide rules. He took me to the attic, waved his hand at stacks of NIB deluxe slide rules of various manufacturers and told me to get any and all I wanted, $10 each. These things cost upward of $60 each in the late 60's. Of course the only value now is in the satisfaction of having them.

I'm not actively seeking any more, but a freebie comes along occasionally.

I collect knives along with mortar & pestles. I'm partial to folding knives but have a few fixed in my collection. I have both modern and traditional.

My mortar & pestle collection ranges from very tiny (1/2 inch) to large (1 1/2 ft tall), metal, wood, glass, ceramic and granite types. Both homemade and store bought. I've been collecting knives and mortar & pestles for over 30 years now.

for now i collect kayaks. i said collects because... well i only need one but ended up with so many.....

Maybe should be moved to CC...

I used to collect pocket watches and canes. I gave/sold away most of them, though.

I still have a lot of pipes. I used to buy them everywhere I went. Quit smoking, though...

I already have enough expensive hobbies!

Knives and guitars for me. 15 total guitars\9 are American made.

Knives and tools. Specifically, odd & unusual tools, and tools that have been modified (in a good way) to fit a particular need. My father-in-law gave me his old Kennedy Kits toolbox, that he used when working on USAF aircraft in the 1950's-60's. There were several modified tools in it, and that's what got me started.
