Collecting knives!?!?!?!

I started collecting knives about 12 years ago and only recently started making knives. When I share my passion for knives with others I always learn more about them then they do about me. Their faces, gestures, and comments speak volumes. I try to convey my belief that knives are both tools and sculptures in steel. By the time I cover what I see in any particular knife most people have stopped seeing it as a stabbing weapon. Even if they conclude something like, "Man this would really hurt if you got cut by it," I try to say something like "Yeah I bet it would... I think this pearl handle is just beautiful. Look at the way the maker..."

Hey I love knives.

I also get a wierd reaction when I flip out my bali to show to someone??
I dont do it anymore since I scared a lady really bad once, she thought I was going to mug her.. Wierd huh??

Same problem here too. Are there any knife collectors from Dothan, AL besides me on the forums?

Jeff

This is a big problem for me. If someone hears that you are a knife collector, it can too easily shape their opinion of you. It took a little while for me to convince the people at my school that I wasn't crazy, but I finally did it. Now with highschool, I have to do it all over again...oh well.

i get this stuff a lot.people(read "sheeple")find it incredible that i will spend more than ten bucks on a knife.wow!thats a cool knife...give ya ten bucks for it....

When someone finds out about my knife collection, their reaction is usually the same. "Why do you have so many knives?" Or "what do you do with them?" I usually respond with something like "why do you have so many ….. Baseball cards?" Often times if you can relate knife collecting to something they collect or feel passionate about; they will develop some understanding and appreciation for your hobby.

I got tired of people telling me how crazy they though I was, for all the above reasons. I just dont bother talking about knives to outsiders anymore unless they bring it up. Sheesh, the absurdity of some peoples lack of depth and comprehension rarely amazes me anymore, but I guess I dont understand why people collect beanie babies either.

My name is Raino, and I'm an addict.

I thought I was alone. But being here with you all has helped me to embrace my problem.

Sincerly
