I am looking for input on some of the tools I might need to make a few blades for relaxation/stress relief.

Here is the short list of what I have already.

KMG Clone that I built (probably need to get another motor as I don't believe the one I have will be suitable to keep dust out) W Baldor 1.5hp/ VFD (KBEC 27D?)
Grizzly 15in Bandsaw (I was considering putting the aforementioned motor and VFD on this bandsaw to make it suitable for cutting steel) Suggestions?

Sears 6in grinder- Few years old but hardly used except the occasional lawn mower blade.

Jet JDP-17MF Floor standing Drill Press

Here is the list of what I plan on getting this year.

Paragon KM14D Kiln(maybe 18D)

Metal Lathe (going to an auction in the next week or two to look at a few)
Not sure how much of this one applies to knifemaking- but being a machinist- I love this stuff.

Anything else I need to add to this list that would be helpful? I have miscellaneous hand tools like files and most stuff a machinist would have. But it is about making life easier!!!

Thanks for your help to the general Bladeforums community...I have learned a great deal from ALL of you (Especially the knifemakers!)

Wow..... that's quite a start on tooling, I'm jealous. Heck I'd love to have your drill press :D

Sounds good to me, one thing you can do to help about dust is to put some panty hose or stockings over the vents and stuff on your motor to keep dust out.

Evening Bill.
I would leave the Bandsaw as it is and buy either a Jet or Grizzly metal bandsaw. Also, the Dewalt portable bandsaw has proven to be a great addition to the shop. Both options would be less than the cost of a motor and VFD I believe.

Thank you gentlemen! The inputs are VERY much appreciated. I will try to offer the machining side of my profession in return as much as possible. To that end,- any questions that I can answer I will...20yrs experience...I might know a thing or two but knives leave me blind as a bat!

Cliff...I am going to take your advise. I guess I knew better getting this saw, but it was a good deal as there was no cash out of my pocket for it...I only traded items on craigslist that I was not using.

Thanks and keep em' coming please!
