Collecting vs Using?

Why do you buy a limited edition/Sprint run knife?

I have my users and then I have my collection knives (mainly CRK) that don't get used. You can have and enjoy both.

I started out as buying and using. Now I'm in some strange opague zone of not being a collector, yet buying for lust ? Fun? An instant gratification endorphin bump ? Dunno, and don't care much anymore. I've had some knives for years and never used them. But I would in a heart beat if the time/location/my interest all focused on that piece at any given time. I have multiple outdoor interests and will grab something fresh out of the pile now and then, just for the spice of life. I have a bunch of high end Swedish axes and 95% of the time I am packing one of my small Husqvarna hatchets. They just flip all the right switches in the void between my ears. I can't rationalize this thing.

Spirit Run and Limited Edition, just another names for 'collectable' and marketing terms.

It is the same as asking whether people should use or keep pristine their 'grail' knives or high value knives, possibly for future resale value. I think the most important aspect in this 'hobby' is to do what makes me happy in a long run, and since it is a 'hobby' for me, I wouldn't count on it to make money.(YMMV) I guess the question is whether one want to enjoy this as a hobby or run it like a business, and only you could be the best judge for that.
