I agree with this. I wouldn't pay Emerson's prices personally.Get a ZT Emerson, a little more rugged, better fit and finish and higher quality steel.

I'd recommend a Spyderco sharpmaker and a strop. They can all cut like that!

You need to take that tip protector off and start cutting stuff if you want it to be a good beater!![]()
That's a good thing. You have to try really hard to get the poor fit and finish of an emerson.
It might be a good idea to actually use those knives 11 in one month means you haven't used any..
OP
It seems like you're hung up on that old Emerson. If I were you I'd either pick up another A-100 (maybe a Kwaiken, it's a similar size) or maybe grab a ZT 0630/0620. Are Emersons overpriced for the materials & build quality? A bit, yes. However, I've got a CQC7 that I enjoy carrying, and have no intention of getting rid of it.
Anything you get will be compared to that old A-100, and nothing will compare because you have such fond memories of it.
Buy the Emerson, and if it's not what you remember it to be then you will know. And you can always sell it and move on. Contrary to many opinions here on BF, they hold their value pretty well.
My first car was a '68 Mustang with a 200cid and a 3 speed stick. I have many fond memories of that car and Every time I see one of similar vintage, my heart wrenches. That being said, yes I do miss it and I do compare other cars to it. While I can get another, it wouldn't be as a daily driver.Anything you get will be compared to that old A-100, and nothing will compare because you have such fond memories of it.
Wait until you get your first custom....it gets out of hand pretty quickly. My knife "collection" only contains six currently, and I've been at it for some 15 or so years. Quality, not quantity. I don't want to do the math concerning value, but I'll say deep into four digits (Which is nothing compared to some members here)
Not going down that rabbit hole.
I've already learned my mistake. I bought things that looked cool
rather than assessing what I needed for my EDC purposes.
Diamond or CBN is the smarter purchase, before the ultra-fine... Right now, it's technique, not gear, that's going back your results. (No offense)Ergonomically the A100 was a nightmare and I’d rather not purchase another one. I prefer something like a CQC6 or the ZT you posted.
So I picked up a spyderco sharpmaker and messed around with it. I sharpened the Gerber Air Ranger and was able to get something acceptable with it. I also worked on the Tenacious and CQC6 Kershaw/Emerson. I’m really pleased with the result using the stock stones it came it. I’m going to purchase the ultra fine stone as I think it will get me the results I want.
I appreciate the advice everyone has given me in this thread.

Check out the Maintenance, Tinkering, and Embellishment forum.
I wouldn't worry about it. You won't regret them. And you'll eventually buy the diamond ones anyway.Wish I had seen your post before. Used my eBay bucks to purchase the ultra fines. Oh well, live and learn.
