Collectors making knives

i design one every other minute but havn't made one yet, being a knifemaker is sorta on my retirement list:)

I wonder how many knifemakers started because they couldn't afford to collect the kind of knives they really wanted?
Several I'd bet;)

Hi Keith and Friends,

I don't get over here much from the maker's forum where I'm more at home. I've heard you guys are a tough bunch to mingle with sometimes. :o So I hope you take it easy on a fella passing through.

Keith I bet you'll have a blast! You've designed so many knives and have such a thorough sense of what makes a good one, that you'll sure know when you're straying from the path. ;)

I never could afford to be a collector, nor had enough culture for the enterprise, so I've been working at making knives. It's such an amazingly broad field that one can fill a lifetime with the pursuit. Cutlery, metallurgy, forging, chemistry, welding, machinery, stock removal, electro-etching, engraving, woodcraft, leather craft, lapidary, taxidermy, accounting, marketing, photography, website craft, etc.

Whatever y'all do with your connection to the wonder of knives, make sure you have FUN!

All the best, Phil

Thanks Phil. I appreciate that you made one of my threads one of your rare visits to the custom knife forum.

There is so much more about knives that I enjoy besides collecting them. Gaining as much knowledge as possible about steels, heat treating and the making itself is a big part of what I enjoy. Forging a blade will just add to that knowledge and enjoyment.
