Collectors: Would you ask a maker to help sell one of your knives

At the few knife shows that I have been to, a number of makers have offered or sold their knives to me and said that they were "pre-owned". for this reason, they sold tham at quite a bit less than their new ones go for. In a number of cases, I could not have told you that the knives were pre-owned--they looked, and still look--mint. It is clear to me that a number of makers do this. And I am glad, as it knocks quite a bit off the price. To me, if I buy something directly from the maker, it means that the maker stands behind it in every way.

Of course, I don't know what the financial arrangements were between the maker and first owner.

One other thing. The makers that I like seem to have a bit of a waiting period. Maybe they would appreciate it if they knew that one of their pieces were for sale--they could have a really impatient customer waiting.

Regarding Gus's question--I would be more than happy to help a maker whose knives I like make a sale.
