What is your school's policy on knives? (list your school and where it is at please)

I go to a Victor Valley Community College (in CA), so I can carry folders of any length, but fixed blades are limited to 2.5" (state law).

What about your school?

Here it depends...not allowed to have "weapons" which is understandable but unfortunate. I suppose it's up to the officer/administrator's discretion. I carry a folder every day. Although balisongs are legal, I try to refrain from carrying them on school property. No need to be perceived as a hoodlum, which is an unfortunate stigma they carry... :(

Exactly! Knives are tools. It's just that it's harder for people to believe a balisong is a tool because of all the stupid media influence. But balisongs work well as beer bottle openers! ;)

Interesting topic. I've posted before that Johns Hopkins University doesn't have a specific rule prohibiting knives on campus. But they do have a policy specifically against firearms or pellet weapons. I've seen a proposed revision with clauses prohibiting knives, but it was never ratified into campus policy. So I guess I've only got Maryland knife laws to worry about.

A few years back a crazy cutthroat murdered the College Republican president with a handgun right after their elections. The murderer got 35 years, maximum security, and the clincher is that Johns Hopkins refused to grant him his diploma (he had just finished his senior year). Crazy school; up the pressure, up the nuttiness, I tell ya.

I sometimes get sick of how some of my fellow students are completely urbanised rich brats who don't see the need for knives (or any kind of survival/manual labour implement, for that matter). Everything's pre-packaged for them in their perfect little world.

I googled a bit and found that there's an amazing amount of muggings involving knives in my school's security reports. In a few of them, the victims were actually slashed/stabbed at, but were never seriously injured. In one case, the student actually pulled a knife and threatened the mugger, leading to the arrest of the latter.

Does High school count?! ;)

From what I can remeber in Canada there is no rule banning knives in any public school. They just ban "weapons" but according to their "zero-tolerance" policy (adleast in my province) you can't even have a metallic fork in an Ontario school, somtimes the Greylaws are the best laws sometimes there the worst. You can get suspened longer for mere possession of a weapon (we aren't talking about offensive usage) then un-armed assault if the police don't get invovled, makes sense huh? Since I haven't gone to college I don't know of any campus laws banning knives in Canada.

I go to the College of William and Mary. I don't know if there is a rule or law prohibiting fixed blade carry. You can pretty much carry anything if you're discreet and intelligent about it (not saying you should, just that it's possible).

AlphaAlphaPB - I noticed the same thing at my school - lots of people think you're crazy for having a pocket knife. :( Lots of armed robberies here (even in a small town). There was also a driveby or two last year, and at least one incidence of some out-of-towners brandishing firearms. Once I started telling my girlfriend (who goes to Oberlin  ) about these incidents she said "Wow, now it makes more sense as to why you carry a knife!" As soon as I get back home, I'm buying her a knife, because now I think she'll actually carry it.

I go to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and it has a no weapons policy. I've carried a knife clipped to my pocket for the last few years while on campus and I've had no problems until this year. Just this semester a girl in my Anthropology class noticed my knife clipped to my pocket, she didn't say anyting but I could tell she was uncomfortable by the way she was looking towards my pocket. From now on I only carry my La Griffe around my neck and out of sight while on campus, that way I don't scare anybody or make them uncomfortable.

I'm at Ole Miss (Univ of Miss). dont know the school's policy but there is a specific state law which applies only to campuses outlawing anything w/ a blade of any length not related to educational purposes or eating utensils.

Who cares if you scare em' ? (unless you want her, but rember to train her into a knife friendly chick)

I don't want to end up getting reported to the Campus Police and have to deal with any fines or embarassment. When off campus I don't really care who sees my pocket knife but on campus it's a different story.

I heard that the CUDA Maxx and Spyderco Police were specifically designed for slicing apples and oranges...;) Or, maybe you could carry a big ol' wheel of cheddar cheese in your book bag, with a Rinaldi TTKK sticking out of it...:D

I'm a Supervisor at Grays Harbor College here in Aberdeen, and although we do have a "No Dangerous Weapons On Campus" policy, there is no "ban" on any knife that is carried legally, in accordance with the laws and statutes of the City of Aberdeen, (which happen to be rather "knife-friendly" :)).

I went to Georgia Tech, which at the time (early 90's) had a pretty conservative atmosphere (the CBS evening news showed clips of a big pro-war rally at the school during the first Gulf War; apparently a significant amount of guidance systems technology for the Patriot missles, among other weapons, was developed there). I'm sure there were policies in place for knife possession, but I carried an Endura for 4 years, using it for whatever tasks a pocketknife might be handy for, with no glaring looks that I can recall. Guess it helps to be among smart rednecks :D

I currently attend UC Santa Barbara, and I've never had any problems with LEOs regarding my EDC (Microtech SOCOM M/A, Benchmade 710). The rules are the same for public colleges in CA, that folders can be of any length, but fixed blades are limited to 2.5 inches.

I carry a SnG on campus. No one really cares, and it's within the law.

bcc, I have a friend that goes to UCSB, it's a pretty fun place to be, plenty of interesting crap to look at.:)

In Illinois most colleges go by the state laws but a few do specify no fixed blades. This includes both the private and public schools. If there are exceptions it may be in some of the schools in the Metro Chicago area.
