Interesting topic. I've posted before that Johns Hopkins University doesn't have a specific rule prohibiting knives on campus. But they do have a policy specifically against firearms or pellet weapons. I've seen a proposed revision with clauses prohibiting knives, but it was never ratified into campus policy. So I guess I've only got Maryland knife laws to worry about.
A few years back a crazy cutthroat murdered the College Republican president with a handgun right after their elections. The murderer got 35 years, maximum security, and the clincher is that Johns Hopkins refused to grant him his diploma (he had just finished his senior year). Crazy school; up the pressure, up the nuttiness, I tell ya.
I sometimes get sick of how some of my fellow students are completely urbanised rich brats who don't see the need for knives (or any kind of survival/manual labour implement, for that matter). Everything's pre-packaged for them in their perfect little world.
I googled a bit and found that there's an amazing amount of muggings involving knives in my school's security reports. In a few of them, the victims were actually slashed/stabbed at, but were never seriously injured. In one case, the student actually pulled a knife and threatened the mugger, leading to the arrest of the latter.
