College knife policies

The University of Toronto has no knife ban. In fact Engineering students are encouraged to carry multi tools at all times.

I attend the University of Minnesota. I have not yet found a campus-wide rule on knives whatsoever, though public opinion seems to be swayed towards the idea that there is a length law. No such law exists here yet, but the dorms do have rules against weapons including knives, swords, paintball guns, et cetera. A 4" blade guideline is set in the dorms, but that does not seem to be the case for the rest of campus.

Luckily I do not live in the dorms, but even on campus in general I am hesitant to pull out my LCC for less-than-critical cutting tasks.

Wow. A sensible knife policy. I'm impressed!

Russian State Institute of Intellectual Property.
Never came across any trouble carring Endura. Nearly always use it to cut sheets of paper, with tutor around. Only once was asked "why do you carry this weapon". BTW one of our tutors (ex-KGB) also carries some rather serious tactical folder(looks like spear-pointed Buck Mini-Strider).

I attend Snow College in Central Utah. Fixed blades on campus are a no no, but folders regardless of size are okay. Was told the other day by a friend that the Campus Security recomends and carries SOG knives which I think is cool.:)

Fire Arms, are not permitted on campus. Utah State in Logan alows them thought. Here, firearms depends on the college.

I go to Iowa State University. The schools laws regarding knives are the same as the state law. Basically nothing over 5" in blade length and no autos. I always carry my Dozier straight Personal and a Benchmade BM31 balisong with me. Both are perfectly legal to carry. Today I actually carried my BM42 balisong because we did a presentation that was based on the design of an indexed balisong latch for my engineering class. No hassels at all when I pulled it out to demenstrate in class.

I'm at Ole Miss (Univ of Miss). dont know the school's policy but there is a specific state law which applies only to campuses outlawing anything w/ a blade of any length not related to educational purposes or eating utensils.

Good Lord, I graduated Ole Miss in '88 and I always had a knife with me. I also had my Remington 1100 in the trunk of my car for dove season. Campus Police said they would keep it for me, but I couldn't get it until 8:00 in the morning. A bit late to get started. ;)

A few years back a crazy cutthroat murdered the College Republican president with a handgun right after their elections. The murderer got 35 years, maximum security, and the clincher is that Johns Hopkins refused to grant him his diploma (he had just finished his senior year). Crazy school; up the pressure, up the nuttiness, I tell ya.

I sometimes get sick of how some of my fellow students are completely urbanised rich brats who don't see the need for knives (or any kind of survival/manual labour implement, for that matter). Everything's pre-packaged for them in their perfect little world.

I googled a bit and found that there's an amazing amount of muggings involving knives in my school's security reports. In a few of them, the victims were actually slashed/stabbed at, but were never seriously injured. In one case, the student actually pulled a knife and threatened the mugger, leading to the arrest of the latter.

Ironically, Johns Hopkins is renowned for doing "research" that finds gun bans to be a viable solution to gun violence. Their pseudo-scientific "findings" are well-known to those of us who understand that it is the person, not the tool, guilty of any crime.

I am not surprised that there is a culture of victimhood and a culture of free-handed criminality on or near your campus. Keep yourself safe. Good luck.

Just this semester a girl in my Anthropology class noticed my knife clipped to my pocket, she didn't say anyting but I could tell she was uncomfortable by the way she was looking towards my pocket.

Ummm....maybe she wasn't looking at your knife, there.

I'm pretty sure she was looking at my knife :(

This is the same girl that gave me some really dirty looks for wearing my "I'm the NRA" hat. That hat just asks for dirty looks on my campus :) , gotta love it!
