Anyone with firsthand experience with Colonial Knife Company? I recently stumbled across one of their ads in Knives Illustrated and am interested in trying out their products. Are they worth the money for their quality. I like the idea of them being a small company.

I picked up a couple of their fixed blades a few weeks ago. They have a bushcrafter series designed by abe elias. Havent tested them out yet but first impression is very good. Especially for the price. Almost feel like I stole them. They are a big government contractor. Lots of military and federal law enforcement contracts. Carried one when I flew in the Navy.

Good to know let me know how you like their bushcrafter series. Their paratrooper knives were what caught my eye looking at their catalog

Their U.S. factory. Closed 1998.

Saw that. They shut down in 1998 and reopened for business in 2001. Two different companies now. One owned by the original family and one by former employees. The latter it seems has their knives made in China.

I bought a blackie Collins assisted opener from them a few years ago. it was smaller than I expected, g-10 handles, I think aus 8 blade. fires real hard, supposedly USA made, but it's just ok.

There is one brand-holder, fronted by a descendant of the founding family. No one can find a U.S. Colonial factory. All locations claimed or identified in directories or public records are small, rented offices. So the claim "COLONIAL KNIFE® INCORPORATED IN 1926 MANUFACTURING KNIVES AND TOOLS IN THE U.S.A. FOR 93 YEARS" is dubious at best, as is the "indestructible" claim. Not to say their knives may not be worth the price.

They also claim to have manufactured official Boy Scout knives. Useful for those to have been "indestructible," if one could only find one.

Interesting

I have been collecting Boy Scout knives since 1955. Other than Colonial's on-line claims, I have never seen a reference to an official Boy Scout knife from Colonial. (I suppose they will be "Scouts BSA" knives now that Boy Scouts has ceased to exist with the shift to coed.)

ed: there are sellers on ePrey who routinely falsely label all manner of edged items as "Boy Scout" (or "antique," "custom," "rare," or "wow.") ePrey is, of course, no authority at all.

I wouldn't buy from them directly, their website doesn't inspire confidence. Too many glitches and a lack of clarity. Some on-line purveyors used to carry them, but had the caveat of rough finish. Some reviews of their last round of Blackie Collins designed switchblades have been favorable.

I purchased from them directly and received my knives in 3 days in az. Grinds seem just about perfect and for $60 each 154cm shipped with a well done kydex sheath and teklok I think its a great deal. Also I dont believe Abe Elias would put his good name and trademark on these knives if they were shady.

DESIGNED BY ABRAHAM ELIAS

Colonial has teamed up with custom knife maker and outdoor author Abe Elias to deliver a line of four ETAG Bushcraft knives--tactical utility knives that are solid work horses to meet the needs of service people and bushcrafters alike. To get a tactical appeal doesn’t mean you have to give up the slightest piece of working advantage! These first offerings fit right in place for any user--Military or civilian--because both want knives that work hard but aren’t hard on the user.

Sorry, there are no products in this collection

Two questions for experts: what official BSA knives were made by Colonial and at what factory were they made?

Lacking a factory, then or now or for decades Colonial had the knives made but has not said by whom. Someone in Italy is one speculation. Whoever made them they have very good fit and finish.
