I need colored (fiberglass preferably) 1/8" diameter rods. I've found very limited selection. Does anyone know where I can find small qtys of these?

I know McMaster-Carr has rods in smaller sizes, but I'm not sure if they carry fiberglass. Their color selection is lacking, to say the least.

Is anyone interested in buying these from me if I buy a giant quantity? (6000' min per color)??

Might be. I'd strongly prefer cloth/phenolic to fiberglass though -- really hate fiberglass splinters.

Boy howdy. Can't help with that though.

Are you thinking regular fiberglass or more like G11?

G-11 is actually just fiberglass (g-10) with a fire retardant additive to the resin. This would be plain old fiberglass.

BTW!!! The benefit of using phenolic pins is that they sand to the level of the handle scales, don't burn the handle material, and don't need polishing after sanding your handle.

Kmac plastics is one my favorite places for stuff like that. And they have every color you want as long as it is black, white or brown. Sometimes you'll see yellow or blue...

But they do have lots of appropriate materials in rods. You're an engineer - you know Peek is good for this, PE is not etc...

These things are frequently a pultrusion. You might have better luck googleing that term...

I've seen green(possibly other colors) 1/8" rods at the electronics supply shop, possibly at Lowes/HD/Menards as well. Metal threaded ends used to pull wires through floors. Check in the electrical wiring section.

ebay auctions, use the following search terms
ice fishing rod blanks
4510 glass Antenna Rod

The fishing rod blanks are tapered, but are very cheap, a 10 pack being $4 shipped. I bet the ice fishing rod blanks are the best course.

Hey zaph1, I've used a ton of those, interlocking glow rods. Use them for running wires in walls, attics, under houses, etc... I have at least 30 of those suckers at my parent's house in UT, never thought of using them for knives!

I have used some fiber optic rods in my knifes. Have mixed results, I guess they collect light from the sides and reflect it out the end. As a pin there is no light to reflect, but some end light can come thru. Was thinking it needs to go in a clear tube then use as a pin.

Anyway at the link below are sizes and colors. Hope this helps... and what do they say? This aint nutting without a Pic?

Top knife fiber optic inside a mosaic pin, second knife is a pin...
