The blocks in this batch are some colorful, not dyed, Oregon Maple Burl that has been stabilized by K&G. The burls were lightly spalted giving the wood the unusual coloring. Stabilized Maple is one of the easiest stabilized woods there is to work and finish. The way I like to finish Maple burl is to shape and sand, fill any open eyes or small voids with a couple drops of CA glue, then finish sanding, followed by a couple light coats of Danish oil to brighten the color and figure, followed by paste wax and hand buff with an old t-shirt. This way even a beginner can get professional looking results. So far I have added the normal-ish sized blocks to our web store. Next will be the oversized blocks.
