Colt Mustang Damascus - Cheap Knife Mis-sold as Full Tang?

In my experience putting on some vinegar and letting it to dry - probably a few times, or leaving it in a softdrink for a night would be sufficient for seeing if there is any Damascus-like structure to the steel.
Yes it looks like a weld. But I also agree that Pakistan-made blades do not usually show any signs of such a high technology. They have probably done that this time because of the guard - to hide some gaps. They are not likely to have proper manufacturing equipment and do not want to invest too much time into fitting two parts together - weld or some soldering may be a way to fill the gaps and to make sure that the guard will not rattle. So it still may be one piece.

Winchester lies about their "Bowie Knife" so I don't see why Colt wouldn't fib about this one.

Hello,

I won a very nice looking Colt 402 Damascus Blade Bowie Knife on Ebay for $33. When it arrived, it is in total MINT condition and very beautifrul!! I plan to have a sheath handmade for it and then display it in my mancave. But at the same time, it Is a pretty well made knife for using. Just because a knife comes from Pakistan or China or Taiwan does Not make it a horrible knife. After all, those guys have been making and using knives and swords for centuries, long before there ever was a USA! We are the New Kids On The Block compared to them. But all of a sudden, we're like, "If it isn't made in the USA then it is crap!" Since when did we become the only superior answer? Don't get me wrong, I am a proud American. All I am saying is that just because a knife isn't made in the USA, that doesn't make it a bad, low quality knife.

At the same time I agree. If you paid $150 for your Colt bowie knife then yes, you paid way too much! You could get a nice Cold Steel or SOG, or even a TOPS or Ontario good solid working production knife for that much. You couldn't get a handmade bowie knife for that low of price, but you sure can get a high quality production knife for that amount. I just looked on my Colt 402 Damascus blade bowie knife and I've not seen any signs of two diff steels welded together to make it full tang. I just see one solid piece of steel for the blade. Now maybe yours broke during processing and they just decided to weld it back together, who kows! But just enjoy the knife. That's what I would do. I just enjoy my Colt 402 Damascus Bowie knife!
