CRKT = :thumbdn::thumbdn: for materials and execution.

Get a standard Spyderco Delica or Benchmade Griptilian. Same price point, better materials, better execution - fit and finish are good and the locks are solid.

I would agree with this when it comes to folders. Get a Delica, I have had one for 10 years for everyday carry.

For Fixed blades, CRKT has some great deals. My ABC Hammond is awesome it was only $40.

I agree. :)

I am not trying to slag on any company. This is my opinion based on my experiences. The 154cm blade on my benchmade 550 has far outperformed the aus 8 I have on a sog flash II and the aus 4 I had on a crkt I gave away. My buddy's thumb stud fell off the first day he owned it. My other friend with a CRKT is missing his thumb stud, I don't know how long it took to fall off. If anyone doubts it, I can probably get pics to post tonight during the football game. A benchmade griptilian is what I'd recomnend only because I love mine. It can be had with a tanto, drop point or sheepsfoot blade and either a thumb stud or a hole for opening. You can just flip it open when you depress the axis locking mechanism too.

I have around 8 CRKT's in the collecton, find their quality fine and their customer service is top notch. I have four of the Cruiser series (Midnight Cruiser being the rarest) and for these, I think the handle carries a bit fat (fantastic grip though!) and the blade could be thicker. Still, they've not let me down.

I went to Baghdad for several months (working construction). Took two knives (were told bring no knives..... yeah, right!). Took the CRKT Hammond Cruiser and a brand new Griptillian. I carried the Griptillian constantly, and frankly the fatter Cruiser ended up being left in my hooch most of the time. I did end up picking up a Cold Steel SRK a couple months in, just for a bit more secure feeling though :D.

I really do like the Carson Flipper (on CRKT's M-16, the Cruisers and the M 1 Lightfoot), but found simply flipping the blade of the Griptillian with the latch retracted to be just as fast with the added benefit of being able to close just as easily.

Don't think I've ever used the thumb studs on my CRKT's. I did see a lot of the M 16 models there, still kicking myself for passing up one in a shop for $20 (new in package, yeah I figure they lifted it from somewhere).

This is the one I'm thinking about [the M16-14D]
The one I regard quite highly is one that can be found at Knifestore at eBay for $49.99. It's the M16-14SF, made in the U.S. It's got a black AUS8 tanto blade and black aluminum handles; also, a dual hilt. It's not only a beauty, it's priced right. I've already bought four of them and will give some as gifts. Didn't know if I'd like it, but it's turned out to be my favorite. I hate going off and realizing I've forgotten it!

A knife doesn't have to be your best to be your favorite, and this one is sleek and beautiful. I also very much like the 14LE. It has a polished black teflon blade that reminds me of the gorgeous bluing jobs on Colts and Smith & Wessons.

Finally, I'm very fond of the M21-04 or 14. You can get them on eBay for about $42.

I have the large and small versions of the crkt s-2. ATS34, liner lock, titanium handles. I really like them. I also have a Benchmade mini-griptilian hollow ground 154 cm. (Both plain edge) I put the s-2 in the box the mini grip came in the day it arrived. I sharpened the small s-2 and put the mini-grip in the case when I went to "town" for training this week. I have had no problems with the s-2. Which is best?
I don't have to decide; I have one of each!

Last I checked, Ajax pistol grips in TX had a few s-2's left at good prices. Guess I just decided not to buy another one, huh.

I also have an S2 and it's grown on me a lot! (It's a frame lock, though.) I originally got it only because I found it on sale for twenty-five bucks. At first I just didn't much care for it, but I'm taking it with me more often these days because it's flat and unobtrusive. And I'm starting to think it's a fine-looking knife, kind of like a Sebenza on a budget. I also like the flush torqx screws and the curvature of the frame.

Best twenty-five clams I ever spent!

My M16-14 is a great knife. Mine is the grey aluminum handle with the lawks feature, not the auto-lawks. I prefer the regular Lawks because if I am doing a quick cutting job, I don't have to hold the auto lawk back and then push the liner lock out. It is a great knife, after a hard day at work it just takes a quick sharpening and it is back to "better than razor" sharp. Of course the only draw back is that the edge wears out after the first one or two cuts. Great sturdy blade and I would recommend this one if you went with a CRKT knife. Of course my vote is with the griptilian. I have the 551 griptilian with the satin plain edge and it is a great knife.

i've compared an m16 to a spyderco endura, the endura steel may be better but it had no screw construction for maintenance, crappy handle and play in the blade. the m16 is solid and my friend and his brother both use them for their edc. granted they have to sharpen them every once in a while but they sharpen easily.

CRKT also has free parts for life. It isn't greatly advertised, but if you snoop around their website you'll find it in there somewhere. I dumbly lost one of the screws for my pocket clip to my M16-14 while making it a tip-up carry. An email and a phone call later and I had my new screw. It has a thick blade for a folder, and has zero blade play. If you are giving this knife to a person who has not been acquainted with bigger blades, then this might appear to be over kill. The Carson M-4 is also a nice CRKT knife especially with the zeff serratons.

A good Benchmade or Spyderco costs quite a bit more than a CRKT, the likes of what we're discussing here.

A good Benchmade is hard to beat, but I find Spydercos (and the BM Grip) to be horrendously ugly.

A knife can still cut well and not be razor sharp, and maintaining a sharp razor edge is what the super steels are quite good in. There are benefits to a good "working" edge, though, and the mid-grade steels are just fine for those of us who don't have missing patches from our hairy arms!

CRKT is ok for the money, but I have had locks fail on me before, not while in use though, just testing them, like ona few models the linerlocks could fail with me just pushing on the blade against the lock...but on other models the lienr was awesome!!! So for me its just hit and miss, like cold steel knives...love some disslike others...the one knife I do LOVE from CRKT is the rollock...cool little knife and at @ $8 without shipping its a winner in my book! Plus the non conventional design is good for beginnes sicne it will not and can not close on your fingers sicne the blade slides in a track!
