Columbia River Quality?

A short while ago I received the CRKT Polkowski/Kasper Companion and it is as expected a great knife. The Companion is my fifth CRKT knife (Point Guard, Crawford/Kasper Folder, M16 and M16 Zytel) and certainly not the last one. They are all solid worked, very sharp out of the box and the folders have reliable locks. Furthermore the special features such as LAWKS or the Carson Flipper. The design of renowned custom knife makers at a very low price. I love my CRKT knives!

Have no fear... after handling several CRKT's and buying the Lrg. Crawford Kasper folder I am super impressed. The fit and finish is amazing for the price. I recently handled a knife like yours at a gun show and was very pleased with the overall quality... Good luck with it.

Great Knives for the price. CRKT's products are truly some of the best bargains available to the general Knife Buying consumer!

Sergiusz, good points, I too have had no problems of note with my CRT&K blades. I own several and have handled well over 150 in the last few years. I had noticed QC issues with another company, but others disagreed srongly with me on that issue. At the end of the day we all have an opinion and that comes from experience first hand. It does not make me right or anyone wrong, just an opinion that we all like to share. I don't think anyone would call your post a flame!

Have a good one!

Sergiusz As I told it was my first opportunity to handle CRKT's. CRKT's have got very good acceptance here in BF. I was expecting quality about the same level as I have seen in e.g. Spyderco, Kershaw, REKAT or Benchmade. That kind of quality I didn't see.
I examined about ten knives and less than half were acceptable by my standards. I saw these knives in two different shops - they did have different models so I couldn't examine same model many times. But still ?????

I have been looking to buy some CRKT's esp. ti mirage but at least that piece I won't buy.

I like the looks of many CRKT's models. Before steel grades were the thing that delayed me to buy CRKT's.

I really hope that it was only one bad shippment. I will give those knives a second closer look.

Bottom line is that also bad experiences must be told.

Well, all I can say is I'm happy with my CRKTs.

Fit and finish are ok - and better than in many Spydercos I've seen. After the first little harder cut with Jess Horn lightweight resulted balde play.
(Ok, JH is not for hard work. Maybe it works just fine as a letter opener. I'm not any fan of Spydercos overall.)
I've used my KFF and M16-03Z for harder and lighter work - no balde play yet.

I got Kershaw Double Duty last week - the lock plate went from the begining all the way to the right (in both baldes). Ok, it could be fixed with pliers. Anyway never needed to do that for my CRKTs.

If someone has got used to using Sebenzas and Microtechs, mayby then CRKT can be a "step back".
Talking about LCC - at least the bolsters in mine are very prone to scratching. Doesn't disturb me - I have it for using (not any collectibe issue). But talking about "it should be carried in it's sheath to avoid scratching" doesn't make any sense to me.

The truth, however, is that steel could be better than AUS-6M. I've heard that CRKT is concerned about the talk about the steel used and is trying to find a solution.

Also the truth is, that I'm thinking of buying my third CRKT...

I own two CRKT's and I am very pleased with them. I was disappointed to see Taiiwan on my Stiff KISS neck knife, but after checking it over and using it at the office, I really like it. I have carried my Apache several times, but it hasn't seen many tasks yet. I plan to buy one of the CRKT Viele knives pretty soon. Stick with them, they are good additions to any collection.

Sure! But as I told previously - the selection of CRKT knives you have described looks pretty unnatural for me. Price you have mentioned also. In Warsaw CRKT knives can be bought more or less within MSRP limit.

It is hard to compare CRKT knives with Sebenzas or Microtechs not only because their prices differ a lot. Mostly because these companies are creating they marketing police on basically different philosophies. I have not strong opinion about Sebenza though I have some ideas, but this is the topic for completely different discussion. However I had some opportunities to play with several MT's: SOCOM, UDT, LCC. And my general impression was:
  • with CRKT you get more knife than you can expect for this price
  • with MT you get less knife than you can expect for this price
Though in absolute competition (without care about price) MT can win in some points, used materials at least.
Several times I have discussed the matter of used materials with CRKT people proposing to continue very good idea to realize the same design in both budget and premium versions, exactly as it was done with M16 and Mirage series. Not excluded that in future we will have choice of Point Guard, KFF and another knives in similar configurations.
Let's ask them together

looked at 50+ CRKT at the gunshow 2 wks ago, and saw nothing that wasnt top quality - maybe the funky ones were knockoffs, lol

Tommi and Sergiusz,

I don't own any CRKT, thus have no first hand experience. However, bad and good experience must be told. Based on the posts so far, statistically says the good experience is more often than the bad, so overall it should be a good choice of knife. The bad experience might be really a 'bad luck'

Just my two cents.
