Aussie Larry sent me these pics of a commemorative PH2 from the Columbus set. Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of thewhole set available right now. Does anyone have details?

The set was planned to be five PH-2's and one PH-1, all burgundy micarta and CM154 steel, satin finish with gold etch, no tang stamp, flat grind w/sabre line, false edge. Rivets were to be stainless screw thru brass collar like original Loveless knives, brass guards. Working title of the set was 500th Anniversary discovery of America, and catalog number was #500LTD. They were to be serialized 1-500. The set was to include a leather bound commemorative book, video tape, official 500th anniversary bronze medallion, white gloves, Walnut Presentation Case (sameas WW2LTD), and registration certificate. They were slated for shipment in June of 1992. The knife themes were:
PH-1 Christopher Columbus
PH-2 Conquerors and Explorers
Plymouth 1620 / Jamestown 1607
Liberty Bell
A Nation Divided
America's Triumph of Space

There were production problems which delayed the shipment of blades to Baron for etching, and this didn't happen til June of '92 delaying the production schedule.

Great! Thanks Michael. All I knew when I purchased originally some time ago now,was that the Seller had the complete set and this unserialized PH2 came with it but it was otherwise identical in all respects.Could it have been a genuine proto for that particular knifes production?Could they have produced more in case there were defects in production? Schrade...usually more questions than answers......thanks for your info/help mate...Hoo Roo

Schrade almost always produced 15-20% over the order requirements, not only for production reject allowances, but for warranty replacements, and show-and-tell samples. Thus a gennie-wine set might have a serial number of 521, and still be of the original issue. Arnold and I have seen this well illustrated with the Los Angeles Olympic Shooting Team issue Sharpfinger.

You're welcome!

Just an additional note on the Columbus set. It was called the "American Quincentenary Collection"
Along with the 5 PH2 and 1 PH1 knives it came with a large brass coin with Columbus' image.
It was sold in a locked wooden frame with a key which I have a picture of from Rich Langstons collection. (I have none of the knives)
Schrade also produced a video about the set and had a 35 page booklet written with a small story around each event.

I'm going to post a pdf copy of the booklet shortly and will post a link to it.

I have a copy of the video which I'm eventually adding to the ad video I already have on the web page.
Off to scan the booklet.

Thats an amazing looking set! Never seen that one before. I noticed that the author of the book is the same author of the WWII book. I'm assuming he didn't work for Schrade because they didn't do enough of these to keep someone on staff. Does anyone know the connection? How many other books like this did they produce?
