Combat hawk

I'll revise what I said before. IF I had $250 to spend, wanted a fighting hawk, I would be selling something and/or find another $50 and get a JK Cassam hawk. I love my Winkler Sayoc, and still drool over JK's hawks.
The Cassam weights 33oz, that's more than the Winkler, but I bet it would also be an excellent wood chopper. The 33oz is not a big deal, if you're a strong guy, and aren't using it to fight bad guys every day. Guys that have to carry lots of other gear may want a lighter hawk? IDK. If you're like me, non-military, LEO, DEA, etc.. and it's just for practice, home defense, chopping wood, then that 33oz will be nice and powerful.

For a sub 250 specifically combat specific hawk, i'd personally take an Emerson cqc-t as it only weighs a pound and comes shaving sharp.

How strong is the head to haft attachment on the CQC-T? It looks small, though I've never handled one.

Thanks

In all honesty, I don't own it but I have handled it. You can tell from this video that the haft is wedged in via a screw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ef6goED47SM
Obviously the haft attachment will not be as strong as a one piece full tang hawk or a friction fit wood handled hawk. However, the handle will probably outlast a wooden haft but like many say, I wouldn't really want to throw it at a tree. Its seems more like a precision lightweight slicer and cutter than a heavy duty chopper although it can definitely chop. Again, I haven't had the chance to swing it at anything but the air but I'd feel comfortable if i had to conceal it under a jacket or take it into tight spaced combat. The only thing that could be better is if it had a faster release kydex sheath.

I agree! I'm a bit biased, but I would take a look at Jk knives and see if there is something you like. The Cassam hawk is a stud of a hawk and I'm loving mine! He has other hawk options as well!
