to y'all that think I'm committing sacrilege! Dale's an American kami, and the knives exist for us, not us for the knives. I think.)

I look at it as a personal choice, and have NO problems with what others think and do. Tell us more about his khukuries; his site was a bit limited on information, and the photos were not detailed.

The "katana people" too, have their 2 schools of thought... There are even Japanese trained American katana "style" swordsmiths, as they like to call themselves; Wally Hayes and Michael Bell are two examples. Then there are lots of non-Japanese trained swordsmiths, like Howard Clark who likewise do excellent work. There's enough room for everybody.

Honestly, I haven't had the chance to really wring out his kuks. I did buy one to give to Fumio Manaka, some years ago. It's been 4 years or so, so all I can remember is, "it felt good".

Dale recycles sawmill blades for his knives. He casts aluminum around a full tang, then (on most models) screws in a steel buttlplate for expediency hammering. The knives are then cold blued and the handles paracord wrapped. No-nonsense, hard working knives at very reasonable prices. You will have to wait, typically 6 mos or so, as Dale does this as a hobby, because he loves it.

I bought a "tanto style" 12" blade version with plain handle, and my buddy Byron liked it so much, that I bought him one for his birthday. Mine ended up in a friend's hands when I enlisted, but Byron's been steadily using his at the hunting cabin for the last three years or more. Al Thompson, a fellow mod at TheHighRoad.org, spent several days trying to dull it on "fat lighter" at the cabin. Without luck. :)

Dale's a good guy, and very humble.

Do you think it is practicle to wrap para-cord on Khuk handle? It looks neats on bowie handle!

I have the handle (horn) of my 16.5" Chiruwa AK wrapped in gutted* para/550 cord. I've used it during several field problems with excellent results. I used Gorilla Glue to bond the cord to the handle. I further subdued the knife by mustarding the blade and painting the pommel flat black and covering the paint with epoxy.

The cord provides an excellent grip.
