1. "Materials": One never knows from one run to another what a Cold Steel "kukri" is made of because "Carbon V" is whatever steel Cold Steel is using at that point.

Not to mention it's much thinner and flat ground. Both these factors mean it continuously binds when chopping... I don't think it's zone hardened with a slow-water-quench, either. I've been told it's little more than a bent machete and is much harder to use..... And the quality is nowhere near what can be approached by a structurally sound HI Khuk!
When will the knife manufacturers learn? The Germans at one point tried their hand at producing Japanese katanas with their finest steel; needless to say, it didn't work. The Japanese, just to flip the coin, tried to copy the extreme watch segment occupied by the likes of Patek Philippe... So far it hasn't worked, although I've heard that there are one or more Japanese apprentices currently enrolled in Swiss watchmaking schools.
With attempts by Cold Steel and others to emulate the khukuri, the kami can only be flattered; if they knew of the futile attempts of others to produce "their khukuri" they would know that nothing quite beats the stuff that artisans make. Thanks for your reflections! Dan
