Rusty? N2S? JP? others?

Anybody have any information on "combination arms"?

Also referred to as "blades and barrels", pistol-folders, pistol-knives, etc.

I know there's stuff out there, and have seen a bit already. I just wondered if any of our antiques and firearms specialists might be able to give me some guidance. I'm looking mostly for reading material, but would definitely be interested in seeing any actual antiques or replicas.

Thanks!

Dan

No help here.
I saw a couple of very simple
(undecorated)
examples at the G&knife show couple weeks back.
Didn't look close,
but the impression I took from my brief glimpse was
"That's odd/ugly/cumbersome"

Same lack of help here. Either replicas, or in miscellaneous books over the years. Not that interested, and memories put in circular file. Sorry.

I wouldn't swear to it, but I am thinking that I may have seen a couple of examples at the Wool-A-Roc Museum up by Bartlesville.
I'm like Rusty, never that interested and memory shot instead of circular.:(

I think Bruce Bump has done some replicas, you may want to check in with him.

Bruce would no doubt take issue with you calling his work "replicas"...:D  :D

I was just discussing this very thing on the phone with Bruce last night. There is a real shortage of books on the subject matter. He also noted what's been said above...that either you love 'em or don't care for 'em. I'm on the "love 'em" side of the fence.

Just for the record, here are the ones I've come up with so far:

"Blades and Barrels" by H. Gordon Frost, 1972

"Half Century Scrapbook of Vari-type Firearms" by Theodore Dexter, 1960

Horst Held has helped me find some material, but anything printed is rare.

Bruce told me a story last night of a company that manufactured a pistol-folder (can't remember the name) that cost around $300. Turns out they soon went belly-up because of the lack of interest - even at that price!

Were they crude? antiques? or just poor replicas?

Bartlesville in OK?

Mike - hope you don't take my jab personally...

Bruce's work is just incredible - he's the main reason for my desire to create one of my own. Here's a recent underhammer pistol-folder he created, named "Love & War":

LOL, Horst is my FFL, he transfers my firearms that I buy out of state and have shipped to him. He's a good 'ol guy with a hell of a collection. He doesn't think much of my modern stuff, though :D

Is Bartlesville where the JM Davis Arms Museum is, or is that somewher eelse? and if that's not the place, does that museum ahve any? place I always mean to stop, but generally either travelling on sundays, or coming through either too early or too late to stop.

JM Davis Gun Museum is in Claremore. It's okay, I wish they had more of the modern guns you don't get to see everyday. They have too many of the same gun in some areas, too. Still neat, I went when I was younger and everything is the same as when I went a couple months ago, had to at least been 15 years with no change.
