Now that my wife decided on a handgun (Kahr PM9), she needs a good holster.

1. Any recommendations?

2. Any good online retailers?

I personally carry my Kahrs in a Blade-Tech IWB holster. I am quite fond of Blade-Tech for all my holster needs.

I agree...Blade-Tech is the way to go. Tim & his crew puts out excellent quality.

Women are built differently than men. Some holsters guys like WILL NOT WORK with women.

Most women I know carry their firearm in their purse (including a female DEA agent I know.)

Talk to holster makers and find out if they make models specifically for women.

I don't know of a holster maker who doesn't make something for the PM9. The real problem is, what will she find comfortable after 6 weeks of daily carry? That's why so many gunnies have a closet full of holsters that just weren't exactly right.

How's she gonna carry? Many pro women shooters carry cross draw. IWB on the female hip bone structure is completely different (Thank you, God!) I would recommend you get input from women shooters only to sort out the actuals on what is right. Mas Ayoob's books on Concealed Carry and Combative Handgunnery address this as a completely separate part of their holster section because the ergonomics are signficantly different.

Case in point, most women can reach around and touch their shoulder blade, men usually can't. It means they work with shoulder holsters to a much better degree than we do. They will also CCW with a jacket or sweater sooner in the fall, or at least can, because of other physiological differences.

She also has other carry options than only a few men would bother with - purses, fanny packs, etc. So, for an important part of carry, and one she needs complete familiarity and confidence with, study up. It's not about what works for the guys.

I know quite a few women who carry, but I know of none who carry on the body.

My wife carries every day, but uses a carry purse from Coronado Leather. She has several. They are stylish and durable, and conceal/secure the weapon qutie well.

Blade Tech does make a great product, but for some people and I think a lot of women, leather is more comfortable for an IWB holster..

for leather holsters, Sam Andrews at Andrews Leather offers about the best value going. Sam knows women shooters and their needs--my wife uses his holsters. Check out his website; he's very easy and accommodating to talk to.

Kramer leather makes wonderful holsters from horse hide, which is more durable than cow hide.

I also like blade-tech, and have about 10 of their kydex IWB holsters.

I've had at least 3 j-hooks crack over time, and have found their customer service to be less than adequate. I have not given up on them, but if you go with blade-tech consider getting the belt loops instead of the j-hooks. JMO.

I AM a woman, which is why I put in my $.02 in the first place. I prefer to carry IWB, as I DO NOT like off body carry at all.

My wife is thinking leather and IWB, maybe SOB.

Most women really don't want IWB once they try it. This is due to their higher waist.

Some women carry it IWB in a cross-draw rig, if they're willing to dress for it. (to conceal it)

The SOB style of carry (over the spine) is a bad idea for man or woman. It isn't at all comfortable seated and can cause serious problems should the person fall on it.

Have the wife put the unloaded gun inside her waistband where she thinks she'd like to wear it for a couple hours around the house. Have her try a couple draws during this time. It will become apparent pretty quick if that mode of carry will work for her.

And again, www.kytac.com

i like leather myself for IWB, galco, bianchi, lotsa good ones for the PM9 ya just have to look and find what ya want,

+1 for Blade Tech.

For an IWB, please, please listen to Powernoodle and get loops. J-hooks will break because Kydex does not have the tensile strength for that kind of repeated bending.

If she finds that IWB isn't working, I suggest an offset rig (paddle or belt loop) as it will "cure" the "issues" generated by body shape and the way clothes generally hang, she won't have to worry about a "print".

TKC has it right! IMO it's always better to carry on the body if you have that choice (I realize that sometimes you don't).

Why polymer? It's lower profile (not nearly as thick as leather needs to be), doesn't care about moisture, has superior retention but will release smoothly, and it will stay open when the weapon is removed.

Mind you I have nothing against leather, and the craftsmen listed for such products are excellent. I'll also add that leather has an aesthetic that polymers can't beat. I'm just a utility kind of guy.
