Hey,
I'v been looking alot lately at the Persian and the Kris. I love both of them but I can only get one, but I still need a little push as money is an issue. So please, show me some pics and wear away what little there is left of my resolve :p and help me decide which one of those beautiful knives to get.

- also I didn't realise that there are two sizes of the persian untill about 20 min. ago:confused:- so any side by side shots of the big and small would be great.

Thanks alot!

the large persian is rare now because its discontinued, finding one is not easy.

the mini persians are still in production, and they are fantastic knives.

Here you go, both Persians, and the Kris...

For my money the Persians are more versatile than the Kris, especially the C83 (large) Persian.

Hi Brad,

You have chosen 2 of Spyderco's finest to choose from. Both Kris and Persian (Large and Mini) are excellent knives.

I am a big fan of them, and especially the Persian. Paul's pic above highlights the important features of size and shape of all 3 in question.

As 3mptin3ss says the Large Persian is long discontinued and is quite hard to find. If you do find them you'd be lucky to get one under around USD$250 in NIB condition... don't ask me how I know :P

As Paul also says the Persian is a more versatile and utilitarian blade. I EDC the Large and Mini Persians. Many like myself rate the Large Persian as one of the best Spydies around. However, a lot also under-estimate the power of the Mini Persian by virtue of once there having existed a Large Persian. For under USD$100 the Mini Persian can be handled by your own self. It is a vicious slicer with as much cutting power as its larger sibling at a fraction of the cost.

Do yourself a favour and go get one. I've recommended this to many people with the warning that once they buy one, they will be getting a spare :) So far I have yet to be proven wrong by that recommendation ;)

The Kris with its wavy blade is much harder to use consistently. It is a thing of beauty nonetheless.

Micarta porn.

I just don't understand why they discontinued the big Persian. What a beautiful knife.

Awsome, thanks alot everyone, thanks again Deacon- since which ever one I get wont see a huge amount of use as anything other than a 'dress knife' i'll probably end up going with the mini Presian, as it looks like it'll go good with a suit :)
but anyhow, now I gotta save up for a Kris too.

Do not make a mistake. Persians are great users. Persian will go well with suit, but it will looks good with jeans as well. I wear jeans at work, after work, weekends and Persian clipped to my right front pocket all the time, except when I go out of state.
Just try how it slicing ;)

Great!, thanks for the gallery- some sweet pics in there, btw- would anyone happen to have a pic of the mini, beside something a little more common for size commparsion? (eg, a delica, cricket, even a buck 110)

Sorry, no pictures.
Mini is little smaller than Delica. Delica is 7 1/8" long open, mini Persian is 6 7/8".
Delica's blade is 2 7/8", mini id 2 15/16. Basically both knives are about the same

The Kris is discontinued also, and I don't know if they made as many of them. The Persian might be easier to find as time goes by.
I like the Kris better myself, the Persian just looked funny to me. :)

I have some pics, hopefully these will help in size comparisons.

Kris seems like a novelty/collector knife. The persians look sharp but I don't have one.

Oh hell no!! I own all three and the Kris actually sees the most pocket time out of all. For me, the upswept tip of the Persians actually makes for a slightly less utilitarian blade. The Kris may look funny with it's curvy blade, but believe me when I tell you, it is one heck of an EDC and can handle everything from opening mail and breaking down boxes to food prep to backyard gardening/limbing/pruning chores. The handle is an absolute work of genius and the Kris works in my hand better than any other knife I own in any grip. Highly unlikely since they are discontinued, but if you get the chance, handle one. I bought my first mostly due to the fact that they were disco'd and the Spydie factory had them on sale (got their very last one!), but once I got it in hand, I quickly decided I needed to get two more backups. To date it is the only knife I have three of. Persians are awesome too (large and small) and are also real workhorses. Don't let the pretty, shiny bolsters and slick, black micarta fool you - not carrying and using any of these knives is doing a huge disservice to them (and yourself).

oh no, I wish I had more cash- I found a new Kris for less the cost of a new mini persian, I like the persian, but I didn't think much about the Kris as I thought it would cost a fair bit more.

well, i'll have to think about this one.
