Awhile back, maybe several awhile backs Yangdu sent me a box of knives with handles to play with.
Some I dressed up a bit, some I just sanded and cleaned up and fixed shrinkage issues.
The feather in me bonnet was my first successful CAK rehandle. It actually looks a bit like the ones the kami's make over in Nepal. Why if my elbow were'nt blown up and a bum shoulder I'd be tempted to pat myself on the back. Hope she gives me another chance one day.
Anyhow these will be headed for Reno tomorrow or early this week and probably up for grabs when Yangdu deems it appropriate.

A little checkered Micro Bowie (original size!)

Checkered up a Kumar Karda

Today with a little lull in the action I was working on some pistol grips and reached a point where they needed a little time. Grain raising or something.
Sooooooo, ever since I did a little bowie with Antler and a guard for BigBore I've wanted one for myself.
It was tough sending his off to him, I was kind of partial to it.
I've had one of them new thin micro bowies on the bench for months waiting for Antler and time.
Well today the planets crashed into each other and we dove in.
The aftermath of horn removal. Always sad when I think of the water buffalo that gave up his headress so we got something to hang onto. It don't go to waste, I save it for a different handle or inlays or whatever.

My collection or repurposed horn.

Another shot of removed handle.

And all glassed up and in the vise. In the rough, a lot of filing and fitting but so far it's looking good.
Hard part is waiting to get after it.

Pugs if your copying my transmission, pace yourself, this one will be needing your magic. I've carried my original micro bowie every day since I got the antler on it, this one will get belt time too, and might even bump the original which of course will be kept in a place of honor awaiting it's rightful place in my presidential library.
Oh and finished one set of grips and made a second, a new world record for time.

Felt like I actually accomplished something today for once. It was bloody hot, stayed in the cave with the fan going, put on me goggles and pretended I was riding my pretend Harley.

Back to the sweat shop tomorrow. Whoa is me.

Wow some awesome work those are outstanding. Im looking forward to seeing what auntie does. Keep it up those are wonderful. Im with you on the horn but even a few of mine seem to be shrinking or cracking and will need some love.

Thanks for sharing.

Whoa Whoa Whoa....What is that awesome little short fatty in the bottom photo of the first post? With the all black handle and lighter pins?
How would I get my hands on that thing!? ...I Must have it! Price permitting. haha

GREAT work on these! Truly fantastic, friend.

Pugs is coping this transmission all right..... Some very nice work going on in your cave brother. You should save yourself some shipping weight and just send that CAK right over to me lol. And of course when your ready you send that bowie my way and we will make something up nice for her. Again brother some very nice work going on over your way.

Some awesome work! If I ever need handle work, could I send your way? You set the price.....of course.
Thank you Mr Joe.

You need some grip reduction on that Foxy of yours. Looks pretty fat in your hand. But you can probably do that yourself.
I'm available if your patient, Yangdu of course takes priority but she's extremely patient so not a problem.
Thanks for all the kind words.

I have a general question about handles. As far as carrying a Khukri in a hot vehicle, what handle would be better for taking heat? And a Chiruwa or rat tail? And likewise in cold weather?

Thank you
George

Unless you leave it on the dash in direct sun and perhaps live in Arizona it shouldn't make much difference.

The chiruwa has the advantage of the pins but the CAK I just did came apart even with the pins. Either the Laha didn't bond properly originally or it got very hot at some point.
The Rat Tail has the advantage of the wood completely covering the laha and insulating it, since it's also peened on the end, the Rat Tail might have the overall advantage.
Laha is very cool stuff and strong but it does go back to liquid or at least softens under a heat gun.
It would be difficult to get the knife that hot unless in the direct sun, like on the dash board.
The nice thing about laha is once it cools down, it gets hard and strong again. Often times a loose handle can be heated a little bit to let the laha migrate some and then cool down and the handle is tight again. Can't do that with epoxy.

Good stuff Mr. B! Can't wait for auntie to put them up! Can I claim a few now????

No answer anyone? D:

What is that really thick knife in the last photo of the first post? The one directly below the Khuk? Black handle with pins?

I must know!

That looks like an R8 (or R-8):

I wasn't sure which one you were looking at. Meister Tall comes through again.

It's a sweet knife, it's heavy but if feel perfect in hand.

Word has it the kami's aren't making any more R series for awhile.
All I did to that one was removing the polishing compound on the handle. It was pretty nice when it arrived.

Aaaawwww snap! Yes the R-8. Thanks Steve!

Well crap, I hope I can get my hands on that one! We shall see.

You can send off an email to Yangdu. It will be in Reno this week. I have no idea what her plan is at this point or what she would ask for it.

Good luck to you.

I do like that R8 too! Might have to fight me for that one Jamiel. Jamiel vs Daniel:D Ah! ...You prolly got it anywayz. Im getting too old to fight. Fantastic job Mr. B. and those do deserve some Pugs pants! That KK rocks and them grips are awesome!

Yea man.. I haven't been training since a shoulder injury. I'll just talk you out of it! :P

So yea, I was going to email about the R-8 but now I might have to wait as I have no idea what the price will look like and I just acquired a early 70's Fender Rhodes I'm gonna attempt to restore and fix up. Or maybe I'll sell something and go for R-8 also! dangit.. DANGIT!...
