Coming up next: Two Ouparators

Very nice Steve. I certainly like the direction we are going.

My plan is to carry this beauty in my back pocket, and the little voorhies I sent you in my front pocket.

There is something exciting about having a knife made just for me. Very cool.

Thanks for being so cool about it and posting progress pics, etc.

Enjoy your company. I am heading to the shop tour in Sallisaw tomorrow. I am looking forward to learning some cool things.

I am 31 and I hope that by 60 (retirement age) I will have skills developed and will be able to make my own knives and do what you do. That would be my dream.

Anyway, take care Steve.

Brett

Well, I think you will be in the right company tomorrow to pick up a world of a good start my friend. Have fun. Tell Ray hey for me.

STR

Steve,
I don't think I am going to want a lanyard on my baby. I will be carrying in slacks 90% of the time so it wouldn't look/function well.

Take care,
Brett

Good they just get in the way of the low rider clips most times anyways.

STR

Well I know Brett is out of town at the moment but when he gets back lets give him something to drool over shall we?

We're moving forward my friend. Blade try in is going well. Things are still rough at this stage but looking good. She is taking shape now.

STR

:D

Oh my! That looks beautiful! Can't wait to have it in my hand.

I had a great time at the shop tour. Met a bunch of guys and gals in the OK knife world. Also met Polk.

Ray says hello!

It was a long drive (2hours 45min) but very much worth it. I am hoping to sneak into someone's shop soon and learn some more tips.

I have to say, watching Ray forge a blade was the pinnacle of the experience. I am sure to anyone watching, i was merely staring at the event with little emotion, but inside I was doing cartwheels.

Thanks for the update Steve. Looks fantastic!

Brett

You are home earlier than I expected. Good to hear you had fun. Careful doing them cartwheels in the shop now! :D

STR

Yeah, it started to get really dark and clouds rolled in. We all decided to get going.

NO cartwheels for me. My ACL is torn and I can barely walk. I feel like a gimp with all my wobbling and groaning.

Knife really looks awesome Steve. Look forward to cutting some boxes in the office...:)

Brett

Just out of curiosity, are you still doing the second ouparator in the beginning of this thread?

I haven't seen or heard anything about it so thought I would ask.

Best,
Brett

There is a hold up on it. I have it started with the lock side ti and G10 cut out but stopped there for now. I suspect its only delayed but no worries. I've got plenty to do and if I get word its a go again I'm just that much ahead when it comes round.

STR

Ok Brett we have lock up! And we have a good solid one too. I love it when I hit right the first time. Its oh so sweet!

The wife is trying to talk me into an estate sale starting at noon which is, well, now but I'm balking about it. Kind of want to continue but we'll see.

Anyway, here is a quick scan. Gotta go debate with the wifey now!

STR

that's looking awesome Steve. Very nice!

Have fun at the estate sale. Might find some cool stuff...never know!

Brett

We didn't go. I actually talked her out of it. Think thats a first.:D

Anyway, we are a pocket clip away from finished on this one. Here are some teaser pics for you.

By the way, for you and anyone that doesn't know. The concept for this folder when I came up with it Brett was based on two knives. The Para Military by Spyderco which I really like except for the lock, and the CQC14 which I like a lot except for the lock and the grind of the blade. Both of which I've changed for myself and two other 14 owners to date who now own CQC14 .160 thick ti frame locks.

The idea is larger handle smaller blade but personally I never needed a knife quite the size in handle width and overall foot print as either of the above mentioned knives so with Oupa's design I stepped it up a notch. It may not be that popular with everyone because some say they look a bit funny or not balanced but in the hand of a big guy, especially one like me that can palm a basketball this is the ticket. You won't appreciate this knife until you use it. Thats where it shines.

Specs: The blade actually fills up the handle from one end to the other when closed. Its a 3" blade overall when open but made with a choil as you requested. For those that don't know. This is to allow both better control of the tip third of the folder in detail cuts and to allow the user the option during use to get the index finger in front of the pivot which leads to a very secure lock up with your strongest finger there to back up the lock in the event that it began to defeat in a high speed manuever or something.

Your knife sports a 2 and 3/8" cutting edge in a Wharncliff blade. Overall length open is 7 and 3/8" and the length closed is 4.5". It weighs in here before the clip at 2.9 ounces. All hardware is stainless. Pivot is 3/16 with teflon washers on each side of the blade. The action on my knives is prettty smooth and the detent is spot on the money.

I may make the clip today. It depends. I am kind of beat at the moment and I need to eat so if I get a second wind believe me you'll be the first to know. The clip of course will be the new improved version you requested in a low rider and of course bead blasted titanium.

Stay tuned my friend. We're almost home. ;)

STR.

Oh man! To be completely honest, I have been checking in all day to see THIS post! That is an AMAZING knife.

You have my word that this knife will not leave my pocket and I will never sell it. It's kind of like having a child, except that you get to pick it!!

I really like the look of the g10 and Ti, especially since they are almost the same width. With smaller Ti, in my opinion, it looks off balance. I dont' mind the extra heft as I have been used to carrying a spyderco mini-manix, at at a whopping 5.5 oz, this will feel like a feather in my pocket.

The wharncliffe blade, in my opinion, is such a great utility blade. I can't wait to use it for office warefare: you know, cutting up boxes, opening evelopes, etc.

I look forward to it resting in my hand for the first time.

Thanks again Steve,
Brett

Nah! This is the post you been waiting on right here.

Done! Next....

STR

If there was an adequate emoticon for dropped jaw, I would certainly use it here.

Steve, seriously, this is EXACTLY what I wanted. It looks really awesome! it will almost disappear in my back pocket, except for that very stylish pocket clip.

Can't wait to get that baby in the mail. Did you receive the voorhies? I doubt it, but sometimes OK priority in state goes quickly.

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I expect it tomorrow and I'll probably finish it tomorrow and mail both home to you at the same time. Hows that?

If it doesn't come tomorrow I'll still mail this one out.

Be sure to save the pics you want to your hard drive because eventually I will have to go through on the forum as pages roll over and remove attatchments to make room for new work pics. It will be a few of course but just so you know.

STR

one step ahead! I have already saved them and labeled them all.

That sounds great. I really look forward to getting that oupa. I have no doubt I will be ordering another in the future as a gift for my father.

Have a great day Steve and get some rest...you earned it.

Best,
Brett
