Commander woes

I recently got a new Commander. I have not cut anything with it, only opened and closed it several times. I noticed that the black-t was showing some slight wear on the side of the blade. Further inspection revealed that the blade was rubbing the liner! I tightened the pivot screw, and the blade doesn't rub anymore but their is still significant play with the blade in the closed position. Is this common for the Commanders or did I get a lemon? Should I send it back to Emerson? I haven't dealt with their customer service dept. are they good at correcting problems?

Shootist,

By all means, send it back. Ernie really wants to correct any problems anyone may have and for you to be happy with your Emerson knife. They are INCREDIBLY busy but they will fix your knife.

Good luck,
Derek

Shootist,

I sent a SpecWar back for the same problem, it took only three months to get it back!! I did get a new knife out of it, and this one is perfect. I only wish it did not takle so LONG!! I also know peoplw who have had to send a knife back and it only took a few weeks, so send it back if you are unhappy with it, they WILL fix it.

Send it back.

There is a real quality control problem that Emerson needs to correct. There have been a lot of complaints like this. Too many for such a good knife. This kind of stuff does not help a reputation. I hope he is not insulating himself with his ardant supporters and ignoring the average customer.

I just traded for one sight unseen a couple hours earlier tonight. Now I read this post. I hope it's decent in the QC dept.

These types of quality control problems come up constantly here. Emerson's reputation in that department is about as low as it can be.

V-1, I hope you get a good one. It seems that the people who do love them. It does seem that there is alot of talk of QC problems at Emerson, mostly with te commander. I dont think Ive heard anyone complain about the CQC-7. I will let you know how their customer service dept. is. Meanwhile I wont buy another Emerson unless I can visually inspect it before purchase.

Well I picked up the Emerson from the PO 9:00AM sharp. I think I got lucky from my testing/inspection so far. No blade play and all chamfers, g10 handles and liners line up evenly. The blade is marked 99 under the emerson logo. Maybe they are getting their quality processes under control. I still would like to see what there customer service is like. Dennis please keep me informed even if only by email. Competing with the likes of spyderco and benchmade in this dept. is the key. Their knives are already awesome.

I will let everyone know. I'm probably not going to send it off til sometime next week. Y2K and everything you know.
